Inflation Control Program Expands Across New Mexico
A statewide inflation control drive began in Albuquerque with a rally at the Hip School and a survey starting April 17. Two hundred new board members were appointed to aid the program as John J. Harris, Seaman First Class from Rodeo New Mexico, survivor of the U S Navy escort carrier Bismark Sea sunk near Iwo Jima February 21, has been returned home on leave from the Eleventh Naval District. About 400 bluejackets and officers struggled in icy waters for two to four hours before rescue. nearly 100 shipmates were killed as Japanese gunners strafed the area. The loss of the Bismark Sea caused more than 300 casualties.
