New Mexico Wartime Food Price Compliance Near 95 Percent

New Mexico reporting 95 percent compliance with ceiling food prices in March, down slightly from February. James O McCaffrey, District OPA Compliance officer, said 12 106 items checked and five percent priced above the ceiling. Bernalillo and several counties posted high compliance with 97 to 100 percent ranges.

Statewide posting rules for liquor prices announced

Walter M. Connell district OPA price executive announced new posting regulations for alcoholic beverages. Eating and drinking establishments serving liquor on the premises must post prices this week.

Inflation Control Program Expands Across New Mexico

A statewide inflation control drive began in Albuquerque with a rally at the Hip School and a survey starting April 17. Two hundred new board members were appointed to aid the program as John J. Campbell James McCaffrey and Esther Crane spoke at meetings and on KOB TV. McCaffrey was to speak again on KOB at 6 45 am Friday on the Need of Inflation Control.

Hearing Commissions Conclude Nine Cases This Week

Floyd F Miles OPA Chief Hearing Commissioner closed nine hearings this week across the state. Hillson Co Albuquerque will lose shoes for 30 days if shortages in inventory aren’t explained. K Koury Albuquerque faces a short inventory charge. Rael and Barton east of Albuquerque receive 10 day suspensions stayed for accepting T coupons. T Martinez Albuquerque grocer faces 10 day stayed suspension for invalid coupon sales. Additional hearings were held at Clovis and Gallup.

Napkin Price Survey Finds Overcharges by Merchants

Forty seven merchants in northern and central New Mexico were found to have charged above ceiling prices for sanitary napkins in a recent survey. L. P. Watkins District OPA Attorney announced the finding. Emiliano Castillo of Las Lunas paid the first settlement check to the U S Treasury. Taos Santa Fe and other towns will follow with payments.

Corner of Fifth and Pyramid Church of Christ and Joseph Catholic Church list religious instruction for children by grade on Monday to Wednesday and upper grade discussions on Saturday. Masses at prison camp at 8 am and 9 am with Latin American service at 10 am in English sermon.

Lieutenant Kerr Visits Parents During Delay En Route

Lieutenant (jg) Jack F Kerr arrives today to spend a few days with his parents Mr and Mrs Earl Kerr at 227 East Coronado before reassignment to Los Angeles. He has spent a year in Chicago in the supply and disbursing office of the Chicago Naval station. His wife and baby are in Los Angeles. he will later go overseas. He was formerly advertising manager of the Kerr Glass Company in Los Angeles.

Recital by B Sharp Music Club Delights Silent Audience

The Friday night recital by members of the B Sharp Music Club drew a large, appreciative audience. Young artists Mien June Hated and Yvonne Martinez showcased piano, with Lora Payne performing Chopin and others presenting Handel, Nola, and Waters of Minnetonka pieces. Vocalist Jim Thrope sang Shortin Bread and readings were given by Carolyn Ruth Atkinson.

Survivor of Bismark Sea on Leave in New Mexico

J. M. Harris, Seaman First Class from Rodeo New Mexico, survivor of the U S Navy escort carrier Bismark Sea sunk near Iwo Jima February 21, has been returned home on leave from the Eleventh Naval District. About 400 bluejackets and officers struggled in icy waters for two to four hours before rescue. nearly 100 shipmates were killed as Japanese gunners strafed the area. The loss of the Bismark Sea caused more than 300 casualties.

Memorial Service Held for President Roosevelt at Central School

The high school and grade schools gathered in Central School gymnasium Friday at 1 45 pm for a memorial service for President Roosevelt. Patriotic songs were sung and an address was given by T J Mayfield superintendent. Miss Bess Johnston returned Tuesday from Snyder Texas.

Charles Martin Breaks Ankle Jumping From Truck Near Virden

Charles Martin suffered a broken right ankle on Monday when he jumped from a truck near Virden. He underwent initial medical care and was listed in stable condition. No further injuries were reported.

Reverend Seneca Garcia Rushed to Denver and Passes
