Camp Beale California reports Corporal Von R Jones of ordsburg is a member of the 749th Military Police Battalion chosen to police the United Nations Peace Conference in San Francisco. The 749th MP unit will guard dignitaries and direct crowds during the meeting. The unit has prior guard experience including Roosevelt and Chiang Kai Shek visits and the Port Costa explosion response. The battalion began training at Camp San Luis Obispo in 1942 and some members have served overseas. Lt Rey F E Thompson, commanding officer of a unit, was named provost marshal at Naples. The American Legion Auxiliary held its regular meeting April 4 at Mrs Ridley Scott’s home, with reports, appointments, and notes on fund-raisers and activities for Fort Bayard and Poppy Day.
The American Legion Auxiliary held its district meeting last Sunday in Silver City with over seventy members from Silver City Central Hot Springs and Lordsburg attending. Lordsburg representatives Mrs Odilee Haltom Mrs W W Scott and La Verne Scott participated La Verne played a piano solo. A luncheon at Murray Hotel preceded the business meeting where Mrs Othalee Fulwider was elected district president.
The pupils of Wilson School under Mrs Thel Poss presented a clever operetta at Central School on Friday evening titled Under the Sugar Plum Tree. It was a credit to the teachers and to the pupils themselves.
Last Saturday evening the American Legion Auxiliary entertained Mrs. Othalee Fulwider of Hot Springs New Mexico. Fulwider is state membership chairman and spoke after a dinner with eleven members at the Hidalgo Hotel, offering many helpful ideas from her extensive Auxiliary work.
Mr and Mrs Elbert Jones purchased the home and chicken farm of Mr and Mrs James Richie and will make their home in Arlington Texas. Mr and Mrs Richie and Mrs Mathilda Jones relocate to Tulsa Oklahoma where Mr Richie is employed. Mrs June Redford returned Monday evening from a visit to friends in Fort Worth.
Albuquerque marks April as Inflation Control Month with Mayor Clyde Tingley issuing the proclamation. Surveys of businesses begin April 17, backed by speeches on radio and at civic groups. Principal speakers include John E Campbell, Esther Crane, and James O McCaffrey. Two hundred new board members and a 26 member advisory committee will supervise surveys running through April 30.
Floyd F. Miles OPA Chief Hearing Commissioner arrived in New Mexico to conduct nine hearings on rationing violations. Albuquerque sessions included Harry Barton Procopio Rael Koury Martines Grocery and Hillson Company. Gallup hearings involve Bud Rice of Badville Trading Post Cubero. Charges include accepting T coupons for gasoline and selling rationed foods for invalid or T coupons.
Federal court in Santa Fe rules against Ezra Eitzen former owner of Will Rogers Tourist Court Albuquerque ordering $7325 in trebled damages for rent overcharges plus $25 per overcharge. OPA also sues Pilar Sachs Albuquerque for $127.50 on a used washing machine sale and T A Johnson for $637.44 on ceiling price violations. John A Ikard and Jesse Newsom face six month suspension for rationed stove sales after failing to keep records. Henry W Lingon named as defendant in $650 treble damages suit.
Retailers of bakery products must post current selling prices on all unwrapped items by May 1 under new OPA regulations announced by Walter M. Connell District OPA Price Executive. Retailers of apparel and house furnishings must follow similar pricing rules.
A community notice lists church activities including Assembl y of God and Church of Christ services with times for Sunday School morning worship and evening services. St Joseph Catholic Church outlines weekly religious instruction and masses for prisoners of war camp attendees with English sermons.

The Civil Air Patrol met at Commander Marshall Kuykendall's home Monday at 7 30 pm. Glen Morrill presented a meteorology lesson that proved interesting and the class appears to be well received and enjoyable.
J P W McKinney the barber has been named Justice of the Peace to fill the unexpired term of the late C W Marsalis. The former office is being prepared for McKinney as he plans to move in soon. Also noted is a brief update on Jimmie Darnell’s brain tumor operation and recovery with family in Animas.

A mercy shipment of 741 424 cans of evaporated milk is en route to liberated Italy to aid undernourished children in congested areas. American Relief for Italy organized the aid as a War Fund member agency, funded by the National War Fund through local community drives.
The Womans Society of Christian Service held a successful Silver Ten event last Friday afternoon at Mrs. Peter Chase's home. The candlelit gathering featured Eastar Jillies decor, piano selections by Mrs H B Chase and Miss Lucy Gass, and songs by Mrs Thelma Ross and Mrs Edwin Brown with Miss Gass on piano.

The next stamp becomes valid May 1 and several stamps extend through June or July.
Capt. Fred Ward leaves for Washington D C to resume duties after a trip visiting Rex and Mrs Kipp and Mrs Emma Muir. He contracted virus pneumonia in Paris and was sent home for a month of rest in a dry climate. He is a Flight Command Pilot with the International Division of F W A and has 85 Atlantic round trips on record. Mrs Ward stays in El Paso after her visit.
The War Food Administration asks ranchers to continue heavy marketing of cattle calves sheep and lambs after a record first quarter. Slaughter of cattle and calves rose over last year by more than 12 percent while sheep and lamb slaughter increased seven percent.
Parity prices of farm products reached a new 26 year high with March 15 prices averaging 114 percent of parity. The UBDA report notes strong demand kept prices near twice prewar levels, signaling sustained farmer revenue.
The district OPA office was authorized to establish dollar and cents ceilings on used lumber. The order is effective now but current ceilings stay in force until the new maximum prices are set. Officials predict the ceilings will bring large savings to farmers.

C V Hemphill chairman of the State AAA Committee announced rate changes for U 8 No 1 pintow reducing from 86.76 to 6.00 per hundred. U 8 No 2 pintow will be supported at 85.85 per hundred. He noted relief feeding requirements are not fully set but have risen and that beans are exported to aid protein supplements to meat supplies.

R. W. Ludwick deputy head of New Mexico Weed and Fertilizer Control Office is named Western representative on the educational committee of the Association of American Weed Control Officials. The panel will cooperate with feed manufacturers to develop a program to inform feed dealers and consumers.

Mrs Marion Walker and Mrs L B Robinson spent Saturday in Silver City. They visited local shops and attended community events, with plans to return for upcoming weekend activities.
The news spread quickly that Franklin D. Roosevelt had died in the early afternoon. A funeral is to be announced with a national half staff display and closings of public offices and baste Kean houses during the funeral.

Mr and Mrs Pred J Potter mourn the death of their eight month old baby Fred Do who passed away. Funeral conducted at home by Rev F M Grieve pastor of St Joseph Catholic Church at 2 40 pm.
