National Library Week Highlights New Books and Events

National Library Week runs April 12 to 18 with the theme Reading is the Key to a better informed America. The library lists new children and teen titles such as Rug by Bear in the Garden and Alvin's Secret Code, plus adult works like The Land Breakers and Magnificent Destiny. A Collier's Junior Classics set was donated by the local Epsilon Sigma Alpha chapter. Mrs Elbert Coursey, the librarian, invites all to visit during the week.

Keddie Diaz was elected president of LULAC at the Monday meeting. Manuel De La Garza became vice president, Benny Arambula secretary, Felipe Martinez treasurer, Manuel Alvarado chaplin, Reyes Aguilera guardian aide, FE J Reynoso Ernesto Renfria and Henry Alvarez trustees. Collins Injures Eye in Pole Handling Accident

Herb Collins was struck in the right eye when a pole hit an antenna on his truck during unloading. He was taken to Southern Pacific Hospital in Tucson and placed in Ward A with eye surgery contemplated.
