Teachers clash over Spanish speaking students at school meeting
Four citizens attended the Municipal Board of Education meeting to protest a teacher accused of calling students de names. The superintendent and board president pledged to act in the students’ best interests after facts are determined. The report notes friction arose from the English class teacher’s objection to students speaking Spanish. The new Lordsburg telephone directory will be delivered starting April 17. Howard Ross, local manager for Mountain States Telephone Company, said all phones in service on March 10 will appear. Numbers after press time are not included but can be obtained via the Information Operator. Old directories will not be collected.

Wayne Britton of Albuquerque has been named resident manager of the New Mexico Boys Ranch. The 3 000 acre facility near Belen serves homeless boys and plans to expand capacity. Britton, a Texas native and Baylor graduate, brings WWI service, youth work, and Albuquerque teaching experience to the post.

Local Girl Receives Fellowship Award
Miss Cecelia L. Altuna of New Mexico and Janice Smith of Albuquerque were chosen among 695 fellowship recipients to study foreign languages vital to the defense program. Deming Man Sentenced to Year for Non-Support
Felix Flores of Deming was sentenced March 28 by District Judge H Vearle Payne to one year in the state penitentiary for non support of his wife and children. The Welfare department supported the family due to destitution. The DA's office plans to seek the same sentence in similar cases.

Aguilera Hearing Set For Today in Southwest Supply Case
A preliminary hearing for Frank Aguilera, former Lordsburg police chief, charged with breaking and entering Southwest Supply Co., is set for 2:30 p m today in Justice of the Peace C J Breewn’s court. Aguilera originally waived the hearing, but after hiring Woodbury and Sehaber, the hearing was granted by District Attorney Norman Hodges. Subpoenas were served on witnesses Thursday afternoon by Sheriff Hugh Pace.

Mrs. Luella Clark Dies In Illinois Rites Held Here
Mrs Luella Soderstrom Clark dies March 28 in Illinois after illness. Funeral services led by Rev Fred Milburn at Heather Chapel on April 1. Born April 21 1875 in Blue Island Illinois she taught in Davenport Moline Rock Island schools before marrying June 1 1899 in Moline. She served Hidalgo County New Mexico as first county school superintendent in 1920 and lived with daughter Mary Jones in Wyoming in recent years. Survived by son John of Santa Fe eight grandchildren ten great grandchildren. Burial at Mountainview Cemetery with pallbearers L R Jones Jr P M Chase Alvin Parker Leo Cohen Dr J H Baxter R M Reynolds.

Lebanon Man Named to Little League National Board
George Harding of Lebanon Tennessee was elected to the Little League national board of directors at the 1964 International Congress in Los Angeles. He represents the southern region covering 16 states from Delaware to Florida and Texas. Harding succeeds M M Galloway of Galveston. He will attend two annual meetings in Williamsport and New York. He visited Disneyland in Los Angeles as a guest of Walt Disney before attending the meetings.
