Hardaway brings valuable experience and will continue the high standard set by Fulton. The new engineer was Holts luncheon guest Thursday noon.
Haymond Scott, son of Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Scott, departed Monday for Los Angeles to take a position with the Foard Motor Company. The community expects Trayvmond to excel in his new role as part of the promising group.
Dr and Mrs Wadford of California have returned from a two week trip and will reside in Bostonia California. They will run the Bostonia Auto Court near San Diego surrounded by vineyards orange groves and foothills. Locals regret their departure after making many friends during their stay.
Martin Wright of Lordsburg announces his candidacy for sheriff, stating years of residency in Hidalgo County, tax paying status, a stable family home in the city, and a pledge to serve the people with honest effort without grand promises. He addresses concerns about eligibility and emphasizes his local ties and readiness.
W E Dunagan has been appointed to take the census of people and ranches for Rodeo precinct Middle Animal Cloverdale and Walnut Wells and began work at Rodeo on Tuesday. After a rest C G Borom is back at the Railway Express office. A good man can't be downed.
The Cole Bros Circus organizes a major show featuring 600 employees, five bands, 400 animals with two herds of elephants, and a tented city occupying over five acres. Accents on training child performers and a parading procession mark the event, with big top capacity of 5 000 and performances daily at 1 and 7 p.m.
Lewis Green completes installation of 2,400 feet of three inch water pipe for County Agent L. Wolleacon with joints to be welded after turnover. He, with his father, is a lean business man who has just bought a brand new Chevrolet and is finishing a three room cottage near her home.
Announcement urges all to attend a surprise sunrise service at the Church of Christ on Easter morning. A illustrated sermon on Christ is Risen will be shown very early. The minister invites the community to join and partner with the church to gain spiritual life now and beyond.
Mrs. L C Conner entertained at a luncheon on Railroad Avenue Tuesday. Her guests included Mrs. K B Ownby and Mrs. J J Boyd.
Kay Eddington of Hodeo attended the Palace Theatre show this week and found the sound pictures as good as the Vox House in Douglas. Patrons from Deering and nearby towns have returned multiple times, indicating local talking pictures are satisfactory.
The Methodist Church changes Sunday evening worship to 8:00 PM from 7:30 PM as days lengthen. Morning communion remains at its usual time and all are welcome to attend both services. Sunday school attendance remains strong with six months showing a 16 percent increase over last year. The March attendance is noted as lower than last year. Pastor John S. Rick invites the community to worship.
J. J. Harrison and R. M. Reynolds have sold multiple Crocker addition lots in Lordsburg this past week. Harrison, a seasoned real estate man, argues it is cheaper to own than rent and that Lordsburg real estate will not be worth less than current purchase prices, making it a sound investment.
Mr and Mrs Leslie Slackburn and their children were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr and Mrs E L Lewis.
The New Mexico Highway Department finished bitumuls paving the full length of Railroad Avenue, 1% miles, with a durable multiple coat surface. State officials including Governor Dillon and engineers W A Havideon and Sam P Fulton praised the work as “well done” and highly durable for years to come.
The Schell Bros Circus attracted large crowds Thursday afternoon and night with an engaging program. A featured menagerie and multiple side shows complemented a clean show, with performers delivering their best acts for a promising season.
Bretaon hat wager tied to the city election outcomes. Short must pay after Heather and Blackburn failed to stay under eighty votes. Heather exceeded the target by thirty eight votes and Blackburn surpassed the figure by nineteen votes.
Lordsburg welcomes new Piggly Wiggly manager Hoyal Sk Porter and wife Christian Porter arriving from Texarkana Texas to assume charge Monday. The couple appeared pleased with the move and left Tuesday for Mian Arizona to visit friends with future plans not disclosed.
Mrs J J Augustine hosted the Monday Bridge Club at her home with substitutes Mrs Short and Mere A Weddus of Willcox. Mrs Heddus won first prize and refreshments were served. A P Levitt of Animnas visited Lordsburg. J B Lovett from Duncan stayed with J G Lovett family. Mrs Sylvia Kerr left for Paso for a visit with sister Mrs Pearl Hopkirk and plans to return Saturday. Dr and Mrs J P Austin Pauline and Miss Brown visited with Dr Austin's sisters near Steins.
A number of Lordsburg residents attended the Upworth League meeting at Dering Sunday evening. Main speakers were J. Cloyd Miller Conference president on League Work and Miss Claiborne missionary from China on life in the mission field. Attendees listed include Kev J S Hice Eleanor Fuller Nancy Cross Addie Louise Conner Vera Johnson Mary Beth Jeffus Miss Shefferbine Ethel Hanner Dorothy Taylor Mary Lucille Wright Miss Hardin Ronald Laun Dry Marion Fisher Jackson Cross. Lunch was served to visiting guests.
The El Paso Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual meeting on April 7 at Hotel Paso del Norte. The event is a banquet testimonial to new development. A. W. Morningstar and Willard E. Holt have been invited.
Voters backed G. W. Hanner for mayor by a narrow margin as the largest turnout yet. Trustees were chosen with Harry Hosenstein and others winning posts while W. A. Short and Jack Heatherman secured re election to their terms. Automobiles ferried voters to polls as candidates campaigned nearby.
Engineer George W. Trimble and two old P. & S. conductors, John Beamons and Adam Sehuh, retire after long service. Beamons and Sehuh each near thirty years, Trimble over forty, with Beamons’ son Woy as engineer and another son Waa as brakeman. Noted as desirable citizens.
A California delegation led by Jack Amertaugh, president of the Los Angeles County Fair Association, and June Chi of Pomona Chamber of Commerce tours the Bonney mine owned by Pacific Copper Company. They meet with managers and express satisfaction with operations.
