Officers, board members and coaches of the Lordsburg Little League have launched a campaign to collect aluminum cans to raise funds for equipment and field needs. The effort aims to engage families and neighbors in recycling while supporting youth baseball activities.
City officials and local leaders attended a Silver City seminar on emergency preparedness sponsored by the State of New Mexico. The meeting covered disaster handling, state and federal aid, evacuation procedures, and the need for local representation for Little League activities amid rising disaster awareness.

The Lordsburg Optimist Club and the City of Lordsburg sponsor the 6th windsail race and annual three and four wheeler motorcycle races this weekend April 4 5. Windsails from Deming Raton Silver City and Albuquerque join races on BLM land eight miles west of Lordsburg. Participants must meet sail size rules be 16 or older with parental consent for minors. helmets eye protection required for motorcycles. entry fees 20 25 dollars windsail 10 15 dollars motorcycles. Trophies for top three and best design awarded Sunday April 5 along with motorcycle class prizes. a windsail dance follows on April 4.
State officials from the Economic Development and Tourism Department and the New Mexico Film Commission visited Lordsburg on March 30 to welcome Nordisk Film Studios to New Mexico and offer assistance. A four party Lordsburg PR group hosted the delegation for lunch before introductions. The visit drew praise for Lordsburg Hidalgo County’s support, noting local purchasing, temporary jobs, and strong community pride with a probable return visit as filming progresses. Lordsburg will be promoted at the state level for future film industry opportunities.
Hidalgo County Treasurer Ramona Baisa issues a courtesy reminder that the second half 1986 property taxes are due April 1 and become delinquent after May 10. The treasurer notes that second half notices will not be mailed to taxpayers.
Lordsburg High School basketball coach Lyman Stough named top coach of the district for the year just completed. His team posted a 16-9 record and won the district title. He expects to improve next season with several returning players.
Hidalgo County Commissioners will hold a budget hearing Tuesday April 14 at 5 P M in the Commissioners Room at the Hidalgo County Courthouse. The proposed budget for 1987 88 will be discussed and available for inspection. Citizens may provide written and oral comments and ask questions about the entire budget.
