Capitol Racing Board Appointments Spark Opposition

Democratic Gov. Bruce King’s choice of four Albuquerque area appointees to the State Racing Commission drew GOP and breeder objections though Senate confirmation occurred. The panel includes Herman Tabet of Belen Les Davis of Cimarron Francisco Urrea of Albuquerque and Drew Cloud of Albuquerque. George Maloof of Albuquerque was retained. Critics questioned race horse breeding ties and statutory eligibility while Davis has long bred horses. King noted Urrea and Tabet meet qualifications and that at least three commissioners must be practical breeders in New Mexico.
