April 1 entry notes Eddie Stang’s trip to Cleveland for two weeks while Lora Bender takes a job with Frank. Miss Edna Andress will close her school. Several neighbors report measles and illness, including Mrs. David Johnson with neuralgia. Charlie Gibson, now at Cleveland, visits Mr. E Gibson. Philip Fow builds a Lorain house and hauls lumber. Charles Schmitken sells his sawmill interest to Mr Haag and moves to Elyria. Earnest Refening from Cleveland stays with his brother Charlie for summer.

April 1893 in Grafton reports Mrs Dwight Wilson still very low and Mrs Barchard slowly recovering while F I Cook remains housebound with rheumatism. A wedding rumor surfaces. Miss Blanchard of LaGrange visits Hastings. Mrs Williams of Wellington opens a branch millinery here. James Finleyson dies at his son’s home. Spitzer Bros from Chatham plan a three story brick bank. D of R to present The Turn of the Tide in LaGrange April 7. I R members enjoyed time at Geo Richardson’s home. Mrs Gen Trenchard receives a three year old alligator from New Orleans. A fire in a furniture store back room caused by excelsior in the stove was quickly contained with minor damage.

West Ridge Notes and Local Social Updates

West Ridge reports Mrs Pope gravely ill and O H Sutliff improving after winter illness. Ad Hohn travels to Elyria for school as term begins. Visitors include Mr and Mrs George Holloway, Miss Mamie Preston, and Mr and Mrs Martin Lauer. The West Ridge Literary Society meets biweekly at the schoolhouse and progress remains strong. Agnes.
