Elyria native leads Reach 190 for Niger airport rescue
Captain Dylan Bishop, commander of Reach 190 in the Air Force 7th Airlift Squadron, led an eight member crew to resupply and relocate more than 200 American and allied personnel trapped at Diori Hamani Airport in Niamey Niger during the 2023 coup. The team established a second forward operating base on Gran Canaria and earned the Air Mobility Command's 2023 General James H. Doolittle Trophy as the Air Force Crew of the Year. Bishop credits leadership lessons from Elyria Catholic High School and family lineage.
