New Lorain County officials sworn in before year end

Several new officials were sworn in in Lorain County. Judge Donna Freeman and Commissioner Marty Gallagher began terms in December. Tony Cillo became county prosecutor on December 23. Giovanna Bremke took oath December 27 to join the Common Pleas bench.

Head Start case taints new trial push in Lorain legal filings

In December 2021 Allen and Smith sought permission to pursue a new trial and for dismissal of nearly 30 year old charges, with Tomlinson to ask Cook to drop them. Rosenbaum opposed, noting Smith’s possible wrongful incarceration and a long history of procedural missteps including a sentencing agreement set aside without notice. The motion alleges improper acquittal, adverse impacts on public funds, and questions around newly discovered evidence and authority to amend the 2013 sentencing agreement.
