Narrow escape as auto plunges into brook near Shrewsbury
A Stoddard-Dayton touring car owned by Maurice May and driven by William Jones left the road north of the Shrewsbury firehouse around three o clock yesterday morning. Eight passengers were thrown clear as the car plunged through a fence and into a ten foot embankment into a small brook. All escaped serious injury though Bayard Wyckoff of Ocean Grove was cut and bruised. Jones fled after the crash and an arrest warrant was issued for unauthorized use of the garage car. The riders included Arthur Lewis, Mah Jon Fulton, Doc Johnson, Bayard Wyckoff, and a friend named Percy, who visited roadhouses before encountering Mortimer and Augustus Planitz of New York at Fair Haven. The car later offered to take the Planitz brothers home. The incident continues on page six.

Two young women under 25 died of typhoid at Monmouth Memorial Hospital yesterday. Earlier, Miss Larsy Tilton, 17, daughter of Charles and Emma Tilton of Fair Haven, contracted typhoid and was admitted for treatment, with efforts to save her life described as heroic.

Fine Bench Show At Rumson Club
An old English sheepdog and a dandie dinmont terrier shared top honors at the Rumson Kennel Club show at Rumson Country Club grounds. Chess II the Japanese spaniel won best toy, Slumber led non sporting breeds, and Kittle earned best opposite sex and best terrier. Owners and exhibitors praised the setup, with 400-plus dogs benched.
