Little Helen Day survived a street collision in Red Bank when a man used presence of mind to pull her from danger. The accident occurred in her mother’s presence on Monmouth Street, causing her to go into hysterics. she sustained minor injuries and was treated locally.
Helen Day five-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs H G Day Maple avenue Red Bank was knocked down and dragged a hundred feet by a car owned by Dr Chappel driven by Fred Conover. She and her mother rushed to Dr Gar rison for treatment and were later sent home. The child’s condition improved today though concerns about internal injuries persist.
Ladies' Auxiliary of Branchport Hose Co hosts a six to ten o'clock cold supper with cold chicken ham tongue pickles ice cream and cake then dancing to Griffin's Orchestra all in support of firemen. Members listed include Austin B Yale Mrs William wat Mrs Walter Merry Mrs Elisha M Mrs Aster Wardell Mrs J Scotland Mrs Poole John L Trowland and Harry Bennett.
The Yong Branch Property Holders Association protested to the Board of Commissioners against renaming West End Hollywood and Elberon stations to Long Branch. A committee from the association met City Hall and urged retaining the historic station names, arguing the labels are universally known and reflect local sentiment and history.
An accident yesterday at Elkwood Park left David Carhart with a compound fracture of his left leg and Theodore Reynolds with severe scalp wounds. They were unloading fence sections from a box car when a toppling piece pinned Carhart and another struck Reynolds. Both were rushed to Monmouth Memorial Hospital by passersby and a driver who offered transport. Red Bank Troop placed third in a district team match at Sea Girt, while the Monmouth County Sunday School Association plans a convention at Oceanic Church on September 25 with multiple sessions and a luncheon.
Pastors and laymen of the Protestant churches of Monmouth County meet at Simpson M E Church in Monmouth City to form a federation. More than a hundred churches will be represented with sessions at 1 a.m. and afternoon, committees named, and a permanent organization to be formed before adjournment. Refreshments will be served.
R P Van Sandt of Jersey City, Royal Arcanum official and Bed Fund Association secretary, visited Long Branch Council No 429 at Odd Fellows Hall. About a score attended as he reviewed 17 years of hospital aid totaling 565 cases at 16800 dollars with funds from sub councils auxiliaries entertainments and interest. He cited Jersey man aided at Isle of Man and noted regents and orators conference at Red Bank.
The Hon. Frank S. Katzenbach Jr. drew about five hundred Democrats to a smoker and reception at the Majestic theatre in Atlantic Highlands after a county tour. He pledged a businesslike administration if governor, urged a careful, slow legislature, support for a public library to study other states, and expansion of the Public Utility Commission. He urged the party to unite for the primary.
A thirty days extension of time for Second avenue paving was granted to contractor Morris C. Burns at the Price Board meeting. City Engineer Seaman reported progress on the east side of trolley tracks toward South Bath avenue with brick deliveries speeding completion within thirty working days. Commissioner Woolley noted supply delays for brick but expressed satisfaction with contractor efforts and recommended the extension. The finance department reported unexpended balance of $16,318.95 and outlined fund balances. Arrowsmith reported requests from Polite Eastbourne avenue Tee He also accepted a road segment at Manmahas sett Avenue and approved awarding Peter Walkh the trade of West End avenue extension for $87.50. Remaining street segments near the railroad tracks were to be addressed. West End Court extension ordinance moved to first reading. Three arrested for illegal sale: Louis Sorrentino, Morris Avenue. William Dean and August Hayse, both colored, held on liquor charges. arraignment set for tomorrow. bail $200.
