Hagard's tomato factory opens under Harry L Powers in Shrewsbury with 125 acres of tomatoes and 12 percent in beets. The plant will produce ketchup and mayonnaise dressing plus bottled tomatoes and sauces. 50 to 100 tons daily. Old hands return as the overhaul completes. Powers also operates carpet and tug works in New York and a large stable and warehouse.
Mr and Mrs James P McCarron of Fair Haven entertained a large party in honor of their cousin Miss Anna V Maher of Jersey City who is to be married on Tuesday September 28. The event began as a china shower and turned into a surprise ride to Highlands Beach then a boardwalk night ending with guests returning home at eight the next morning. Liverpool England September 43 after a brief and simple funeral service and the most signal honors ever paid a foreigner in this port the body of the late Mayor William J Gaynor of New York who died at sea rested today in a mortuary chapel aboard the Cunard liner Lusitania. The ship will sail at 5 p m today and reach New York next Friday morning. The Rev Theodore A Howard conducted Anglican funeral services at six with Rufus Gaynor absent. The body was placed aboard at eight a m amid formalities of the march to the town hall last night but no crowds gathered. Mounted police escorted the procession and the Lord Mayor of Liverpool sent a representative. The Cunard liner Lusitania is mentioned for the voyage.
