Funeral of Captain William Ludlow at Port Monmouth
The funeral for Captain William Ludlow aged 67 or 68 was held at his Port Monmouth residence at 1:30 pm then moved to Port Monmouth church where Rev. B C Lippincott Jr of Matawan Rev John A Oakes of Belford and Rev Archibald H Sutphin of New Monmouth officiated. Pall bearers were Henry Coe William Coe Charles H Walling William C Roop Frank Viering and Charles A Smith. Interment followed at Fair View cemetery under direction of Harvey S Bedle of Keyport.

Trixey a quiet eleven year old fox terrier caused unease by vanishing from Frank Meade of Liberty street. The dog reappeared after entrapment when bricks and mortar fell, and a passerby in the back piazza freed the animal from the outer wall. West End team sets dry hose laying record at Asbury Park parade
Park Long Branch clubs failed to win tro phies but West End Engine Company astonished spectators by setting a new dry hose laying record of 47 25 seconds in a quarter mile course. Branchports and Elherons and Monmouth Beach also competed. Peter Grover led the West Ends with sharp driving as fans praised the performance.

Closing services at Wright Memorial Home on Heatontown road
On September first the last services of the season were held in the little chapel at Wright Memorial Home. Capt. Charles B. Parsons of Red Bank arranged a different speaker each Sunday with the Women's Auxiliary of the Sons of Veterans No 16 presenting Woody Crest Cadets with a silk flag. The Cadets led by Capt Frank DeCosta performed drills as children sang and prayers were offered. Parsons spoke on a Psalm theme, with the children reciting and singing, and Parsons received a gold scarfpin gift from the children.

Expressman's Leg Broken in Runaway Accident
Louis West, a young ex pressman, fractured his right leg when thrown from a wagon near the Southern depot after his horse bolted. He was carried to the Johnson house and then home to Sixth Avenue. Dr. Charles J. Gremer planned examination and possible operation if the patient stayed favorable.

A large auto truck owned by Seaman and Seaman wholesale grocers of New York was badly damaged by fire on the Middletown turnpike between Headden's Corner and Cooper's Bridge Red Bank. Firefighters saved the chassis and wheels after the top burned. two gasoline cans in the rear may have contributed. The truck was en route from New York to Belmar. license 22,456 NY.
