Banks in Mexico pledge support for the Huerta government raising confidence as rebels demand a $2,000,000 ransom. Officials warn disease and hunger threaten Villa forces due to unburied dead on battlefields and critical shortages of ammunition.
Mexican banking interests pledge support to General Huerta after a nightlong meeting in Mexico City. Minister de la Lama says all December obligations will be paid including interest on National Railway bonds. Elsewhere rebel General Aguilar demands two million dollars to secure oil-field property in Tuxpam, while federal authorities vow protection. Huerta threatens court martial for generals Orozco Caralco Mercado and Salazar defeated by Villa, as campaign plans unfold.
A high school one act play titled Thanksgiving Eve at Old Fort Inn was performed in the Inter medial Auditorium Wednesday from 10 30 to 11. All cast members under Miss Adelaide Rees’s coaching delivered strong performances with Jerome Van Brackle Maurice Potter and Ruth Giles singled out for praise. The program featured Jab Cobbs Captain Walmers Tom Stableman and Norah among others and was well received by pupils and staff.
Joseph Stein prominent local businessman died at eight yesterday morning at his home 34 South Fifth Avenue following a three month heart illness. He was born in Pilsen Austria and lived in Orange Newark and New York before settling in this city in 1886. He ran men’s furnishing stores and held multiple lodge memberships. Survived by his widow and three daughters Pauline Norma and Mrs William Ehrlich. Funeral Sunday at 2 PM at the residence, interment at Hebrew Burial Ground. He leaves a father in his nineties two brothers Isaac Max and two sisters Mrs Anna Goldstein and Mrs Carrie Joseph.
Members of the Independent Fire Engine and Truck Co No 2 hosted their fourth annual ball at the Lyceum on Wednesday night with Prof J Pitman Wests orchestra providing music. The two part program featured twenty four numbers and decorations were praised.
The jury found Harold Bennett not guilty in the case of the 8S. P. C. A. against Bennett of Red Bank. The hearing at Borough Hall heard how Bennett, a Baker guest, hired a horse and rode about 60 miles, with two girls joined in Freehold and Jamesburg before returning.
James Mulligan a colored man of Fair Haven was arraigned on a charge of assault and battery brought by Maggie Wall, also colored, of Fair Haven. She alleges Mulligan attacked her on Cedar Avenue in the Western part of the borough, threatened with a knife, and fled when she screamed. The pair have a history, Mulligan having served time at Freehold on a similar charge. Ball was set at $100.
The Cherry Club at No 28 held its inaugural dinner at The Imperial Hotel on Tuesday electing Fred Waller as president and establishing a permanent club with officers including Daniel Covert A W Cornelius and G W Treat. A large crowd anticipated winning a 27 pound turkey at the Grand Theatre and tickets for a Daughters of Liberty rally at Townleys Mall were announced.
President Wilson and Mrs Sayre with Eleanor Wilson and staff sail from New York on the George Washington. They will attend the Army Navy game and return Sunday morning. Dr Grayson and Secretary Tumulty accompany them.
The 1912 Carnival commission led by Arthur Hy faced scrutiny as Awbury Park council demanded a formal report. Bills from Jersey City Printing were presented again, while officials debated fiscal obligations and whether the carnival owed money. A sweep of ads and notices followed.
A stranger chauffeur accosted Miss Estela Sherman after inviting her for a ride, pursued her from Monmouth Street to Grace Church, then fled when she fled behind the building. Several Red Bank women have reported similar behavior. no police report filed. The day included a Thanksgiving kindergarten party at Mrs. Mary Cannon’s home with songs, games, a pie favor, a fire, and a marriage announcement for Jesse Woodrow Wilson and Francis Bowes Sayre.
At Broadway and Oceanport Avenue a Monmouth County Electric trolley struck an Adams Express auto driven by Lester Connors. The impact flipped the car, injuring Connors who was thrown to the pavement and bruised. He is bedridden at home with a leg gash and shock. Robert Pierce the motorman and Kline the conductor were on the trolley. Connors is married with several children.
On Thanksgiving day a large number of brides were married in the city. Mollie Kathleen Action wed Paul J. Coles at Star of the Sea Church with Rev. Father Cantwell officiating assisted by Father Halloran. Guests filled the Hayden cottage for a breakfast reception. The couple planned a 4:30 southbound train departure for Philadelphia en route to Washington, D C. They will reside on Chelsea avenue after a brief honeymoon.
An elderly man was hit by a car speeding through a street. The driver fled the scene. identity and vehicle details are not yet learned as the victim was taken to a hospital.
Engineer Samuel Hayden Jr, a longtime Fire Co. member, lies in a comatose state at Monmouth Memorial Hospital after an incident near the engine house. He was last seen lighting lamps around 6:40 pm and may have been struck by an automobile with two men and a woman allegedly involved. No witnesses besides those in the vehicle.
