Memorial to Monmouth priests dedicated at Mount Olivet

Four thousand Catholics from Red Bank, Atlantic Highlands, and Long Branch attended Sunday ceremonies at Mount Olivet cemetery in Red Bank to dedicate a granite monument to deceased pastors. Speakers included Rev. M E Kane and Rev. John O Connor. The monument weighs 62 tons with 30 tons of broken stone in the foundation and features a large crucifix and saintly figures. It was erected by Manson & Sons of Red Bank.

Heywang Exonerated in Fraud Case as Suit Is Dropped

John Heywang formerly of Heywang & Slater was cleared of criminal intent after witnesses testified. Judge Henry Schoenlein discharged him, deeming the suit dismissed as a vindication. A Beach Store has opened a branch on South Broadway near Ocean Avenue offering confectionery and fountain drinks, with improved lighting and new arc lights on Broadway and Liberty Street.

Child Run Down by Motorcycle in Shrewsbury

Ten year old Geneva Riordan of Shrewsbury was struck by a motorcycle on Paterson avenue while returning from St James Church. She suffered a fractured ankle and other bruises and was taken to Dr. Wilson's Red Bank office before being sent home to recover. The rider fled after the collision. The incident also mentions a lodge picture presentation and local physicians.

The thirtieth annual sermon to Funeral Aid Society members was given yesterday at Trinity AME Church by Rev. Dr. J. C. Ashby. Dr. Ashby’s subject was Faith Hope and Charity. The society hastily organized assets totaling 3336 in real estate and cash.

Waterway League opens regular meeting in New Jersey

The Waterway League of New Jersey held its first regular meeting at Hisner's Hall 94 Market Street Newark with 144 charter members. Officers and trustees were announced and by laws adopted fixing state meetings on the third Saturdays each July and September. The group planned an effort toward an inland waterway and a July state meeting at Borg Branch, with Long Branch well represented.

Nationals Victors Over Relief Team At Monmouth Park

More than 1500 baseball fans watched the Nationals of this city defeat the Reliefs of Red Bank 11 to 2 yesterday afternoon at Monmouth Park. Manager Fagan started Van Pelt, then Ollie Wood relieved in the third inning. Wood pitched until late, while Little handled the Rel iefs. Vitetta contributed a run after an earlier error, as the Nationals dominated the game.

Mrs Poole of Oakwood Avenue Dies After Long Illness

Mrs Emma West Poole, wife of James Poole of 21 Oakwood Avenue, died Sunday at 3 20 PM after a five year illness. She was 77, born April 4 1834 in Shrewsbury New Jersey. Funeral at 1 30 PM Monday at the house and 2 PM at First Reformed Church, burial Glenwood Cemetery West Long Branch. Survived by husband four-score years old and one daughter Etta Hulst, plus three West sisters.

School Athletes Break Records at Red Bank Meet

East Jersey High students shone at the Red Bank event held Saturday at the county fairgrounds. Athletes set multiple marks in track events, including the 440 yard and mile runs, while Red Bank and Perth Amboy competitors posted standout performances.

Grammar School Inter Class Meet At Baseball Park

The first annual inter class meet at Grammar School was held Friday at Baseball Park Division Street. Students competed in many events before time ran out, with scores listed for sprints, hurdles, jumps, and relays. A gold medal and class banner were promised for top performers, and a luncheon was hosted by Miss Grace Britton and her class. A St Luke’s M E Church board meeting tonight plans the church golden jubilee next July.
