Air blast nearly kills well driver at New Metropolitan
Elias Brower 65, a Bradley Beach well driver, narrowly escapes after a plug in an 8 inch pipe blew out under pressure during artesian well sinking for the New Metropolitan hotel. Sand and debris blinded him, but he improved and was expected to recover. He was aided by coworkers including his son, Harry Brower. The incident occurred during the pipe sinking of a well intended to supply the hotel.
