Friends suspect murder in death of William Lynch
Friends and relatives of William Lynch question the death by own action theory. Ex President Michael J. Lynch doubts the suicide, Mount Vernon police also reject it. Lynch served 16 years with Mount Vernon PD and had worked for a New York detective agency. He was reportedly watching a married woman in New York’s orbit, with ties to Long Branch. The body shows seven marks under the chin, possibly from brass knuckles or a diamond rag. Lieutenant George Atwell claims murder, while Lynch’s devout Catholic views are noted. A real estate agent says Lynch winked and whispered about an important cave at Jersey City station. Friends say Lynch carried about 300 in his pocket and owned Westchester County property valued 10 000 to 12 000. (Continued on Sixth Page.)
