Woman Suffrage Defeated in New Jersey Senate
In Trenton on March 20 the New Jersey Senate defeated the Gebhardt resolution to amend the state constitution extending voting rights to women by a 3 to 17 vote after a heated debate. Support came from Senators Davis and Gebhardt and Gaunt. opposition included Nichols Edge Colgate Pierce and others. The defeat prompts plans to push the issue in the House via the McAlister resolution.

Independents Celebrate Second Anniversary in Fire Company Gathering
Members of the Independent Fire Engine and Truck Company marked their second anniversary with a gala at fire headquarters on Third Avenue. The lower floor hosted banquets while the second floor offered entertainment and reception. Katherine May Quinlan daughter of Jate James Quinlan and Katherine Quinlan of Rochester New York died yesterday at the home of her uncle Rev Aloysius Quinlan in Eatontown from endocarditis after two weeks in hospital. Funeral services will be held at St Dorothea’s Church Eatontown tomorrow at 8 15 am with a solemn high mass of requiem. Interment in Rochester New York Cemetery under direction of Batontown funeral director Charles Breese.

Quiet Red Bank School Election Yields No Opposition
In Red Bank Borough Hall last night the school board election brought reelection for President Charles J. Warner William J Sutton and Dr Jeremiah E Sayre with no opposition only 66 votes cast. Warner and Sutton each received 66 votes Sayre appears on a ticket but without support. Appropriations of 20200 passed 1 to 1 with eleven votes rejected in the later contest. Warner nears 44 years on the board and the piece notes the district has grown from 4 teachers and 172 scholars in 1869 to a high school and four other public schools today. The Rumson Board of Education elected Levi S Van Nest Louis Newhauser and Charles Dickson with Clarence Layton a candidate who received 20 votes.

Show Girl Named by Mrs Thomas in Divorce Suit
Mrs Thomas names a show girl as a co respondent in a divorce suit involving her husband, a financier known as a “magel.” The husband, said to be abroad since two years ago, is believed to be in Nice. The couple, once entwined in a high society life, drifted after an August 1908 Long Branch accident. She traveled to Paris last June seeking an absolute divorce, but no settlement followed. They have no children.
