Public Utilities Bill Routed Through Legislature
In Trenton on March 17 the Assembly approved by 39 to 17 and the Senate by 15 to 4 a public utilities bill backed by Republican leaders. Democrats decried the measure as a sham while opposing amendments to strengthen it. Sullivan led a six hour Assembly fight for his alternative, which was defeated, and arguments centered on powers and governance of the commission and public utility books access.

Brush fire at Fred Ryder yard checked by Fair Haven firefighters
Firemen from the Fair Haven department were called to a brush fire at the rear of Fred Ryder’s house on Mall Street. The blaze damaged part of Ryder’s fence, but the crew extinguished the fire without using hoses and returned to work.
