Narrow escape for J F Abels in Elberon collision
John F Abels of Koops and Abels grocery firm had a near fatal brush with a northbound passenger train at Pearl street crossing Elberon last evening. He stopped for a southbound freight then began crossing as the passenger engine struck the front of his Stude baker delivery car. The engine hoisted the car and swung it aside but Abels escaped with a severe shake up and a couple of scratches. He clung to the steering wheel saving himself from likely death. The crash caused major damage to the car front while the engine hood and wheels were damaged. Continued on second page.
