Monmouth County Horse Show Opens With Strong Attendance

Monmouth county's horse show at Hollywood Park begins its second day with a lively crowd on opening numbers. The brisk sea air boosts comfort as spectators mingle on the lawn watching the horses in the ring and later crowd the rails for jumps and racing. Winners from New York and New Jersey receive blue and red ribbons and cash prizes.

Presbyterian Home Manager 18 Dead

William J. McIntyre longtime superintendent of the Presbyterian Home at Branchport by the Shrewsbury died at Monmouth Memorial Hospital from paralysis aged 57 after a ten day illness. Funeral Sunday at 2 PM at the Fisher home with Rev. John G. Lovell officiating. Burial Greenlawn under John G. Sexton. Survived by widow and two children. He helped care for hundreds of children during outings and was an active Loyal Association member.

Freehold Man Dies at Monmouth Memorial Hospital

Edward Thorpe of Freehold died at Monmouth Memorial Hospital last night at age sixty. The body was moved to the county seat. Albert L. Ivins of Red Bank, assessor and noted trapshooter, will travel tomorrow to Phillipsburg to compete in the seventh shoot for the Frank Hall Cup, currently leading the contest.

Fire damages tar pot near East Long Branch

Last night about 11 30 a tar pot between East Long Branch and North Long Branch owned by Conover Gaskin caught fire. Alarm failure caused confusion and delay while Dalys fought flames with acids and Oliver Byron Engine Company laid hose. Smoke drew crowds as tar burned. remnants left were a torn rack and a lone tar pot with a tall pole.

Cornerstone of New St James Church Laid With Ceremony

The old St James Church dating to 1855 saw the cornerstone laid for a new stone edifice at Broadway and Slocum Place. Bishop John Scarborough led the service with parishioners, clergy, and citizens present. The planned church, valued at over 60 000 dollars, will house a Bible, prayer book, canons, diocesan journals, parish history, and periodicals in its cornerstone vault.

Democratic Club of Long Branch Organizes With Officers Named

The Wilson and Marshall Democratic Club of Long Branch organized yesterday with officers President John W. Slocum First Vice President Benjamin P. Morris Second Vice President Brent Good Secretary Frank I. Smith Treasurer Jacob Steinbach Jr Sergeant at Arms William Trefold Honorary members include Congressmen Thomas J. Scully G Patten and Secretary of State David S. Crater. Brent Good donated the room for club use until after the November election. Over a hundred members enrolled and funds raised for a campaign banner to hang in Broadway. A committee to secure the banner was formed Philip L. Cohen Frank I. Smith and John C. Disbrow. A Baltimore convention nominating endorsement was adopted and members pledged effort for nominees.

Auto Driver Charged After Brighton Avenue Collision

Ayoung chauffeur named Ari James Vangelis employed by Paw Alex was arrested by Patrolman Ringleben after a collision on Brighton Avenue. The victim, identified as B Mehrham of Newark, was knocked unconscious and treated at Monmouth Memorial Hospital. Vangelis faced a Recorder's Court hearing for driving with a fictitious license number and was fined 20. Witnesses said the victim stepped into the path of the car as Vangelis slowed after leaving a nearby garage.
