Patriotic Day at Julia Home Highlights Milestones
A flag drill and Independence Day celebration were held yesterday at the Julia Home on Morris Avenue. Mrs. Seligman of New York funds the home, run by Mrs. Allie Ettlinger, with guests photographed by Arthur Hall and entertained by Miss Dorothy Witlinger at the piano. The event showcased new facilities, including swings, a merry-go-round, indoor playhouse, and a fatigating room for prep and fumigation. Thirty children stay two weeks, with nearly 300 benefited this season. The home, three stories, hosts a nonsectarian program with named staff and “mothers” from an older child. Fire box tests and hospital updates followed later that day.

Fourth of July fireworks injure Dr Shaw in accidental blast
Dr Harry B Shaw sustained serious facial and eye injuries when a defective flower pot firework exploded on a lawn at H Mason’s Bath Avenue home during a Fourth of July party. He received medical care at Monmouth Memorial Hospital as friends hoped vision in both eyes would be preserved. Mason escaped with minor burns, while Clarence G. Van Note suffered burns to face. The incident occurred as guests watched from the porch and a lantern was held nearby.

The Red Bank Motor Boat Club and Red Bank Yacht Club hosted a spirited Independence Day regatta on the North Shrewsbury River. A crowd watched a two mile course with nine entrants in a 20 mile free-for-all around a triangular loop, starting with a gun. Leading early, George Gillig’s X. P. O. N.C. held the lead for several laps before Vita Jr. owned by Mrs. J Stuart Blackton challenged later in the race.

Elkwood Park Steeplechase Thrills at Elkwood Park Meet
The Elkwood Park Association opened the season with fast times and few falls. The Elberon Steeplechase featured The Evader vs Kingpin in a thrilling finish, with The Evader briefly leading before Kingpin surged again to win. Pattis Chevaux and Scatchbaddie each scored in sprints, while Gold Plate and Web Carter vied in a hair-raising chase for the Elkwood Park Steeplechase curtain.

Hundreds of Red Bank residents faced long homeward detours as appl ey cars between Sea Girt and Red Bank stopped after the Fourth of July fireworks. Service on the Atlantic Coast line and Monmouth County Electric Co. Red Bank line halted due to plant trouble at Allenhurst, forcing passengers to walk or hire private transport. The Newark Y M H A group visited the area with a decorated auto wagon during the outing. Ice cream promotion noted.

Fatal Coal Car Accident at Red Bank Claims Nan Rogers
David J C Rogers 22 son of Mrs Mary and the late Benjamin Rogers of Lanoka Ocean County was killed at Red Bank near Chestnut Street when a coal car on a New Jersey Southern freight plunged a hump and toppled about 30 feet. He was acting as brakeman and buried under around 40 tons of coal. He died of a fractured skull before Dr Sayre could arrive. Coroner Fay issued a burial permit. The funeral will be at Lanoka with burial in Good Luck cemetery. Survived by his mother two brothers a half brother and one sister. He had worked in railroading three years and lodged with Mrs Buckalew on Chestnut Street Red Bank.

An open air W C T U gathering in Washington Park drew over three hundred attendees. Mrs Beauchamp Kentucky state president spoke on prohibition as the liquor cure, citing prison and home experiences, and urging total prohibition over total option. She will attend the Atlantic City national meeting next week.

Horse Jerry the Daly’s Fire Horse Injured Foot

Runaway accidents seriously injure trio in Bath area
A series of runaway accidents today left three people hurt including L Ledwitz a Broadway painter and Samuel Sherman of Lakewood after a carriage toppled in Bath avenue. Ledwitz suffered a head wound and Sherman a fractured hip. A separate incident injured James Pierce a contractor driver when horses trampled him after a wagon fell apart on Branchport avenue. A coal team run away at Monmouth Ice Co yard also caused damage before being recaptured. A woman pedestrian Mildred Todd was briefly frightened after a car nearly struck her.

George Lane Dies Abruptly in West End Apartment
George Lane aged 56 and son of the late James Lane died suddenly near noon after collapsing in a second floor six apartment building at West End court. Found by Gorge Weeks, he died en route to Monmouth Memorial Hospital after hemorrhage exhaustion. Coroner Morris to defer remains until daughter Martha Fisher of Newark arrives. Lane, a Long Branch native, ran a fish market in season and had long resided locally.

Eatontown Fourth Very Successful Celebration
A large crowd visited Eatontown for the eleventh annual celebration with eight events all successful. Highlights included a 12 to 2 baseball victory by the single men over the Benedicts at Monmouth Park, bicycle races won by John and James Dean, and a five mile handicap won by George Hume. A Maxwell automobile was sold via cooperative plan to Raymond Van Keuren, then flipped to Frank Woods for 100 pounds.

Carbone Horse Recovers After Wounding at Office
The Carbone horse that nearly entered the Record office Wednesday noon was led to Asbury Park yesterday afternoon. The animal walked lame but veterinary surgeon Dr. H. R. Clark said the tenderness would soon heal. Dr. Clark is also tending three other horses owned by Mr. Garvene, as shows and races resume.

William L Wolt of Red Bank aged 61 and a half died shortly after midnight after two years of poor health. He lived at West Front and Pear streets and is survived by a wife two daughters Susie Ingalls and Evelyn Voight a brother Hance Wolt and three sisters Martha Ryder Busan Bennett and Mary B Minton. Funeral services Sunday at two from his residence with Rev John Le Miner officiating. Burial at Fair View cemetery Middletown conducted by Rit R Mount & Son. He was born in New Monmouth, worked as a carpenter, and was a member of Onward Council No 98 American Mechanics.
