Five looters were shot in flood ravaged districts of Paris as the disaster worsened. Seawalls fail and sewers burst while thousands seek relief as troops, doctors, and relief workers pour in. Paris faces outbreaks, rationing debates, and emergency measures across the city.
Simon Hess owner of the Pennsylvania Club in West End Long Branch reports that average temperatures here mirror Atlantic City's for 1909 and 1910 records. He argues Long Branch could become a superior winter resort with better roads hotels scenery and amenities if promoted and developed.

Mamie Mills a colored woman with a police court record roamed near Third avenue, got drunk and attacked Henry's chop house with bricks. She smashed plate glass windows, a door pane, and damaged a cigar case, drawing a crowd and police attention. Henry's windows were destroyed, losses run into hundreds, and Mills received a ninety day jail sentence.
Former Chief William R. Moore of the Long Branch Fire Department was honored by a department delegation at the West End engine house. Mayor McFaddin presented a gold badge as tribute to his service, with others praising his leadership and the department’s teamwork. The event included speeches, refreshments, and a demonstration of horse-drawn response, marking the retirement tribute with a richly crafted badge reading Chief Long Branch Fire Department and dated 1910.

Isabel Walter Contént owner sailed by Captain William Buxton won the Board of Trade Cup race on a seven lap fifteen mile course. Hazel L captained by Asher Wardell finished second before Leroy which withdrew. Brewsbury Club claimed two successive legs as the race unfolded with Isabel leading at the ten mile mark and finishing seventeen seconds ahead.
Prompt discovery halted a second floor fire in Michael Whalen residence on Westwood avenue last evening. Harry Whalen alerted family as smoke filled halls. William Beatty and Mr Whalen carried out burning clothing to the bath. Damage pegged around 75 dollars with many garments ruined. The cause remains speculative, possibly a burning match dropped among clothes.
John A. Hall, missing treasurer of the closed Southbridge Savings bank, surrendered in Worcester Mass after being accused of a bank shortage exceeding $150,000. He pleaded not guilty and was held in $50,000 bail by Judge Park. bail was furnished by friends. Hall claims he was in New York for six days.
New York January 28 Charles H Beakes director of the Consolidated Milk Exchange testified in the milk inquiry before Referee William G Brown. He described a pricing system where twenty creameries under Beakes Dairy sold milk and cream at varying rates including Borden Consolidated Milk Exchange and butter test prices. He claimed arbitrarily fixed rents and prices. Ferris of Ferris Milk and Cream said he faced persecution for not joining the Exchange or Retail Milk Dealer association and recounted five ventures in a decade in which contracts were shaped by exchange influence and rival dealers undercut costs. General Weyler in Madrid was thrown from his horse and hurt.
