Jackson Mich Jan 26 Four persons are dead and thirteen others gravely injured after Michigan Central passenger train No 70 collided head on with a freight near Jackson. The smoking car was telescoped and every occupant injured or killed. State authorities opened an investigation into the wreck cause.
Robberies at Sea Bright include a break in at the telephone pay station and a second break in at the Mady store house where items once from the Tagon Hotel were stored for safekeeping. Independent Council 11 marked its twenty year anniversary at Bowser Hall Sea Bright with many visitors attending. Mr and Mrs Isaac H Cranmer planned a Miami winter trip while their son Ralph studied at Coleman’s Newark. Mr and Mrs Frederick F Biddle and son Gorton visited Havana Cuba with souvenir cards dated January 22.
Christian Edwards is sworn in as the new Batontown Township Board of Education member succeeding the late Frank J. Chance.
Three Long Branch tax appeals were heard Friday by the Monmouth County Tax Board at Asbury Park. The E A Price estate owner of the General Grant cottage on Ocean Avenue seeks a $15,000 reduction from $40,000 to $25,000. Atlantic Coast Electric Railway requests a $32,500 cut from $92,000. Broadway Theatre owner Henry Roseberg asks to lower assessment from $48,000 to $38,500. The railway case involves a deduction dispute with the Lot Branch assessor and outside appraisal.
The St James parish plans a major rally day on Thursday February 12 to install Morten A Barnes as rector succeeding Rev E Briggs Nash. Bishop John Scarborough will preside at 10 am with other bishops and clergy expected. An afternoon Neighborhood Association meeting and an evening reception follow with music and refreshments.
Mrs Martha Campbell widow of the late ex Freeholder William H Campbell died at her New York residence 111 West 84th Street on Saturday from pleuro pneumonia and complications of diseases she fell ill January 14 Dr George Knipe and Dr Scudder J Woolley attended The funeral will be at 1 30 PM tomorrow from the home of her daughter Mrs Clinton Elliott 16 Throckmorton Avenue Red Bank Rev Alfonso Dare will conduct the service burial at West Long Branch She was born 1847 on the Eastwood farm later Franklin Avenue and was the last of her family Her surviving child is Mrs Elliott and granddaughter Mrs Ethel Knipe She lived in Long Branch until two years ago later moved to New York city Friends regret her sudden death.

R Hilliard Gage and a 2 p m session on The Attendance of Children at Church. Turner to Succeed Rhome in Asbury Park elections tonight. Joseph M Turner will take his seat on the Asbury Park City Council to night as successor to J Otto Rhome and likely become council president unless plans change. Democratic councilmen Hancock Moyer and Rugarber back his seat while Photas Winkler and Dr F Caleman oppose. Pastor Rev Dr John Y Dobbins marks another life milestone as friends spread word of a celebratory shower.
In Trenton the Legislature eyes a New Jersey plan to curb late session railroading. Governor Fielder supports ending bill introductions by March 5 and a ten day wait between second and third readings. Senate backs a time limit. Assembly has a ten day gap rule. Continued on Sixth Page.
The funeral of James H. Lloyd longtime superintendent at Hollywood Park Monmouth County Horse Show grounds was held Saturday at the First Baptist Church Weat Long Branch. Rev Charles F McKay led the service with a quartet singing hymns Safe in the Arms of Jesus Rock of Ages and Nearer My God to Thee. Pallbearers included Captain Chan H Brown Walter Brown Sylvanus T Emmons William R Joline Joseph Brown and Richard Harvey. Burial followed at Gilenwooff cemetery Weat Long Branch. P J Casey and Charles W were among those present.
Settlement of a $30 000 suit by Lester C Reimer against Thomas Robb Jr over alleged alienation of the Reimers wife has been reached and the case will not be called in Freehold court. Terms undisclosed. reports say Reimer will not contest divorce and may receive between $500 and $1 000. Neither party would discuss details. Robb said terms unknown and his counsel confirmed a settlement. Reimer denied any settlement and said trial would proceed.
The Rev. Charles F. McKoy spoke at First Baptist on The New Paganism as Reflected in the Tango and Diaphanous Gown detailing a craving for vulgar displays and materialism. He urged old fashioned piety and condemned modern novels and stage works for lewd content.
New Jersey lacks an Attorney General as of today after Edmund Wilson’s term expired. John W. Wescott, a Camden Democrat, awaits Senate confirmation to assume duties tomorrow. Theodore Backs remains interim, and Neilson B. Gaskill retires with Wilson. a Democrat will replace him.
The New Jersey State Chamber of Commerce sends letters to each Congressional member urging support for the Scully Martine bill. It calls for a survey of Sea Bright to assess protective sea dikes and access to the U S Government reservation Jay Hook. Congressman Scully has introduced H R 11988 to authorize a waterfront survey by War Resources.
Recorder Arrowsmith spent over an hour handling police court matters including drunken and disorderly conduct non support and carrying concealed weapons. Vito Der Grippe a 19 year old boy was arrested on Broadway after threatening to shoot Charles Schwartz and later at the Central depot. he surrendered a 3 calibre Smith and Wesson with cartridges concealed elsewhere. Bail set at 500 pending grand jury action.
The Streak and Pigit battled over the Independence course on the North Shrewsbury with the Streak winning by one second after six miles in 16 minutes 45 seconds. Figit followed second as Vincent Willis flipped from his boat but recovered to place behind the Streak. The day also saw P. D. Q. Ti fourth and Breeze fifth while Spike took third.

Robbery at the Little Silver railroad station saw six men ransack the office and damage the telephone booth.
