Wrecks Kill and Burn Cars in Canadian Pacific Route

In a Soo branch disaster near Webbwood Ontario a train plunged thirty five feet into the ice of the Spanish River killing many and injuring dozens. The dining car and first class coach submerged burned and several passengers perished in flames. Rescue teams to Sudbury saved ninety two injured while crews battled fires and tried to reach trapped travelers.

Conover seeks divorce in Monmouth Court of Chancery

Frank B. Conover, owner of the Coleman House Asbury Park and head of the Monmouth Ice Company Long Branch, files for divorce from Margaret Blanche Conover on desertion charges. They wed 9 January 1884 at St Peter's Freehold and lived in Freehold Asbury Park until 1895. They have a daughter Dorothy, about eighteen. Service made at Marlboro Blenheim Hotel Atlantic City. Daughter visits father. no answer filed by defendant. Case referred to Special Master for testimony and final ruling.

Hollywood Union Meeting Promotes World Evangelization

Man shoots self in lobby amid story of girl’s departure

An unidentified young man killed himself in the vestibule of a boarding house at 100 West Forty seventh Street New York after learning a young woman who had left for Long Branch, New Jersey may have known another man from Pittsburgh. Police sought to locate the woman as officials doubted the connection.

Professor Arrowsmiths Funeral In Red Bank

The funeral of Professor Stephen V. Arrowsmith of Red Bank was held at his Mope avenue residence on Thursday afternoon. Members of Keyport Royal Archm and Red Bank lodge Free and Accepted Masons attended. Pall-bearers named were County Superintendent John Enright Freehold James Cooper Jr Garret Jones Frank Weeks and Mr Couse of Red Bank. The body was buried at Fair View cemetery.

Express Hits Undertaker's Rig At Green Grove Crossing

Melvin Bedle driving over the Green Grove avenue crossing of the Freehold division of the Central Railroad Wednesday eyeing a 7.80 train due at Keyport when his horse bolted free from the wagon and hurled the carriage. Bedle was badly cut by broken glass as the carriage overturned. The horse died during the night after being taken to the stable.

Grand Secretary Alberts to Speak at 30th Long Branch Event

Grand Secretary Roberteby-Adbertsr of the GFSHd Caine Royal Arcanum will address the thirtieth anniversary celebration of Long Branch Council No 429 at Oda Fellows Hall on Tuesday evening February 1. Red Bank Poultry Show Attracts 1600 Birds And 107 Exhibitors

The poultry show to be held in Red Bank next week features over 1600 birds and 1140 exhibition coops. Judges will award prizes on Wednesday afternoon with more silver cups and prizes than last year. Local exhibitors include Arnheim, Achelis, Jehl, Tabor, Green, and farms from Deal Beach, Eatontown, Oceanport and surrounding towns.

Twenty Five Years for Asbury Slayer

Gavino Crispo, convicted of manslaughter last week, received a twenty five year State prison sentence from Judge John Foster. He must also cover court costs. Crispo, age disputed in court records, faced leniency pleas from counsel Samuel Patterson while his wife attended. The killing of Michael Villepiano, a fellow Italian living in Asbury Park, occurred weeks after an assault and Villepiano died at Monmouth Memorial Hospital.

Memphis hosted three Long Branch residents last week as they arrived on salaries. Roy Taber was acting with Geo. Cohen's The American Idea Company. Joseph Mitchell and George B. Highland Beach man to manage Tampa club house

Conneilman William Sandlass of Highland Beach sails for a few months to manage a club house near Tampa. He runs Bamboo Garden at Highland Beach and was elected a Sea Bright council member last November. Local justices and constables are notified of a meeting at Masonic Temple Trenton on Jan 26 to organize the New Jersey State Association of Justices and Constables, about 6000 in the state.

Mrs Margaret Lord Dies After Fall At Icey Asbury Park

Mrs Margaret Lord of Ocean Grove died at Ann May Memorial Hospital Spring Lake from shock after a fall on icy pavement in Asbury Park on January 4 breaking her hip. She was about 65. Mr and Mrs M A Hice of Atlantic Highlands and nieces left for South America the morning of January 4 and plan to return around April 1. They will visit points of interest along the route.

Ice boat Princeton wins in gale on eleven miles race

In a fierce afternoon race on a rain swept river Henry Hume Munro's Princeton and J E Green's Bogie, captained by Asher Wardell and Charles Greene Jr respectively, contended under 40 mph winds. The Princeton led from the start, finishing eleven and a half miles in 18 minutes 16 seconds, after Wardell slowed the boat to protect it. The match race, organized for a silver plate trophy, drew many spectators despite the storm.

Board of Trade Race Delayed Again By Ice and Wind

A second postponement of the Board of Trade cup boat race disappointed spectators at Shallow Point as wind and icy conditions limited the 15 mile course. South Shrewsbury and Shrewsbury clubs prepared to race with boats like Isabel Clarel Sweetheart Jack Frost Milded Hazel Leroy while newcomer B Content built by Thomas Niddle drew attention.
