Flood of Bills Marks New Jersey Legislature Session
In Trenton on January 17 1910 the first business session of the 1910 Legislature adjourned early out of respect for Ex Governor Werts with 91 bills introduced 53 in the Assembly 38 in the Senate. Highlights include the Vredenburgh militia retirement bill a court martial endurance test and medical exam requirement and several public utilities and taxation measures along with Sunday liquor and restraint of trade proposals. The Senate also adopted resolutions of regret over Governor Werts death.

A grocer named D D Harvey, driving a skittish horse, slid on Sixth avenue Monday morning and was dragged for several feet after striking a snow and ice obstruction. He escaped injury as the sleigh upended but remained unharmed.

Former Governor George T. Werts Dies in Jersey City
Former New Jersey governor George T. Werts died at his Jersey City home from pneumonia after a two week illness. He would have been 64 on March 24. Survived by widow and two daughters, funeral set at his house with burial in Evergreen cemetery Morristown. Born Hackettstown 1846, Werts served as Morristown recorder, mayor, state senator, Supreme Court justice and governor.
