Revenue Cutter hurried to the assistance of the boat but found she had anchored safely. Lifesavers prepared to go to rescue as the schooner was stranded and then blown clear by wind at Hook.
New York reports a three masted schooner Thoviss Winsmore ran aground near Sandy Hook in a fifty mile gale. Ships and Life Savers out in force but the vessel drifted safely to deep water. Also notes northwest storm warnings from Maine to North Carolina and a brutal cold snap with 30 below in the Great Lakes region. Madame Nordica ill with pneumonia at Thursday Island. plans for return to the United States. Funeral for David Richardson held at Eatontown A M E Church. many local notices and upcoming events from Red Bank and nearby towns.
Funeral services for Howard Smock were held at the First Reformed Church with crowded seating and fire department presence. Rev. Blekkink and Rev. Lovel delivered sermons, a quartet sang, and pallbearers included Neptune Hose Company and Junior Mechanics members. Interment followed at Glenwood cemetery in West Long Branch.
North Beach property owners decided to rebuild bulkheads along the same lines to straighten conditions. Yease A. Howland was chosen to oversee the entire project including sand filling and bulkheads. A Newark party including Alfred Cloughly traveled to Seabright for the event and luncheon at the Cloughly home after the meeting.
A special chamber meeting at City Hall will discuss changing the Long Branch federal post office building materials to marble. Congressman Scully may push the change if citizens vote support at the meeting, backed by Vermont Marble Co notes claiming marble can finish on budget without delays.
Peter A Worthley died in New York at 74 from heart failure after visiting his Little Silver home. He was the first Worthley to die in fifty years, leaving widow Lida Swinson and sons Mortimer Randolph and Irving. Survived by brothers Thomas J Worthley William B Worthley James G Worthiley and Benjamin P Worthley, he had been a hatter on Greene Street and latterly in insurance. He left three sons and had long connections in Monmouth County.
Cribbing and stone filling bulkheads in Sea Bright withstood severe storms, protecting the J A Scrymser and George F. Pan coast properties better than others. B A Van Brunt built both cribs and stone fills, cited as best protection as waves batter shore structures. The Scrymser bulkhead remained nearly intact while the Pan coast bulkhead suffered minor damage.
John Jackson of Rockwell avenue died Sunday at Monmouth Memorial Hospital after a prolonged heart ailment. Born July 10 1849 in Kingston he moved to Long Branch thirty years ago and worked with Burtt Co before eighteen years at Mounts Carriage factory in Bink. He is survived by a widow. Red Bank wins the basketball game as center Kenneth Jeffrey breaks his arm after five minutes of play. Despite physician warnings he played, ending his season. The Red Bank High quintet outscored Chattle in a scrappy, penalty filled contest on Red Bank court with lively performances from Gordon Hines and Beebe, while Jacobus and Cavaliere contributed for Red Bank.
An inventory filed by the New York office of the clerk of the courts shows Horace B Burr died April 12 1911 leaving 63030 82 net in New York and beyond. Gifts include 250 to Charlotte Burr 100 to Mrs Antonis Burr and 10000 to Ebeneser H Burr in trust for life with remainder to issue. Two life trusts benefit Eugene B Burr and Wilkes J Bert. Bridgeport Trust Company sole executors. A separate report covers Rudolphine Rust estate with 83101 62 total. two High lands nephews receive 19229 80 each.
Fire Chief Joseph Schwark asks captains and lieutenants to meet tonight at the Phil Daly House to discuss department needs and improvements. A series of meetings will follow, with chiefs set to advocate changes aimed at increasing efficiency and general department improvements.
