City Recorder Arrowsmith releases the year ending 1911 tally. He notes 473 offenders before the court and total fines of 982.50, with 410 under motor vehicle acts yielding 572.40 to the city. He urges volunteer probation, post release supervision, and improved Youth welfare.
The Hebrew Helping Hand Society held a large social in Townley Hall with 35 tables and over seven souvenirs. Awards went to Mr. Firemorris and W. H. Martin. two cut glass pieces to Mrs. Henry Meyer and Dr. Julius Kabadust. Proceeds support charitable work. Flames and Lewis perform at Empire Red Bank with moving pictures and songs nightly.
Long Branch residents should brace for zero weather tomorrow morning as a broad cold wave sweeps from the Great Lakes to Florida. Winds reached 72 mph today, last night’s snow preceded a rapid thermometer drop from 33 at sunset to 10 at sunrise. The Weather Bureau warned of much colder conditions and NW winds, with extreme lows reported to minus 36 at White River Ontario.
Funeral services for C. Fred Nelson were held at 2 30 PM from the Grove street residence with Rev. Dr. George H Neal of St Luke s M EB Church officiating. Neptune Hose Company and other fire department members attended in body along with Local Union Sheet Metal Workers and Sewer Company officers who employed him. Floral offerings accompanied by the Neptune hose wagon. Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery.
At the Independent Fire Engine and Truck Company gathering last night gold badges were presented to retiring officers James Ennis Jr and C R Morris for their meritorious service as captain of the engine and truck. A B Morris handed the badges as ex-captains spoke briefly in acceptance. The event followed years of tradition and welcomed ex-officers back into the ranks.
The body of Jacob Showles was laid to rest at Glenwood cemetery after 50 years married to his widow. Masonic rites were held by Long Branch Lodge No. 78 with members from multiple towns and New York. Interment followed with religious services at Simpson Memorial Church and a eulogy by Rev. Dr. Shaw.
Edward Russell Thomas once wealthy banker and gambler confessed judgment for 1 234 487 in the New York Supreme Court. His annual income of 160 000 from his late father General Samuel Thomas is tied up by court order to satisfy creditors. He and his wife have lived abroad since a 1907 Ocean avenue car wreck. His Holmdel racing stable was sold at auction amid low prices.
Thomas R Woolley, longtime president of the Atlantic Fire Engine and Truck Company No. 2, was honored last night with a gold badge marking twenty five years of service. Arthur Hennessey presented the token as Woolley expressed gratitude and pride in leading the Atlantics.
County road supervisor Martin McCue shows off a new RE. M. F. auto roadster and says he plans to cover extensive territory once spring work starts.
The U S Weather Bureau predicts fair and colder tonight with continued cold and NW winds. Saturday should be fair with strongly colder conditions and gales from the northwest. Observations from Long Branch report a high of 35 yesterday and a low of 10, with 0.11 inches precipitation and 1.7 inches snow depth in the past 24 hours.

Delegates from Red Bank Protestant churches meet at the Y M C A to plan a week of prayer starting Sunday night. Emphasis will be on the Men’s Forward Movement in Religion with union services and nightly topics at each church and lay participation.
Mrs. Catherine Sickles of Oakwood Avenue celebrated her ninety first birthday with neighbors visiting her home to offer felicitations. She remains active and attends church. on New Year’s Day she dined with her daughter and twenty guests, while Branson Stratton, younger by decades, shared the meal and recalls eighty six years of life.
A Long Branch woman proposes a New Year White Sale with corsets muslin lawn silk underwear sheets towels and more at Red Bank Goods Store run by Joseph Saiz. The plan marks 1912 stock and a five store buying combination without leftovers or job lots.
The 1912 New Jersey Republican caucus in Trenton outlined a two session plan to adjourn sine die on March 22 after advancing party platform bills. Leaders said the program aims for early introduction and passage of measures, with the Democratic minority likely to challenge but not derail reform efforts.

Around noon Thursday a horse and wagon collided with a Jerry Central Traction car at West and Wall streets in Red Bank. The horse was freed and ran toward Pearl street before being caught by John Murray and Thomas Higgins. The wagon sustained only minor damage.
Mr and Mrs Marshall Woolley of this city leave Long Branch this afternoon for New York to board a Mediterranean steamer for a grand cruise. They will be away most of the winter and many friends in the city extend best wishes for a delightful voyage.
Prof Frank KE Sieh visited Atlantic Highlands and Red Bank to play three chess games with Thomas Tallman of the association staff, losing two and drawing one. Benjamin Van Viiet of Shrewsbury, a Princeton student, also visited the Red Bank Y M C A and was defeated by Tallman. A rotary buffet supper and prizes are planned by Deal Fire Co with trolley and auto arrangements for attendees. Tickets cost $1.00. Arctics and leggings advertised by Jacob Steinbach. Stuffed dates offered tomorrow at Sugar Bowl.
