New Theatre Project Under Way On Broadway
Work began yesterday on a new theatre planned to transform the Thomas A Walklett building on Broadway into a modern play house. Architect Clarence J D Wilson prepared plans, Cranmer Bros. hold the contract, and cost is about 12000 dollars. The 650 by 135 foot structure will seat 760, feature a 36 by 40 foot stage, 22 foot ceiling, glass lobby panels, fireproof tile construction, rear scenery entrance, and three months to completion. The U S Weather Bureau forecasts a 36 hour period ending Wednesday with fair conditions tonight and Wednesday in New Jersey, continuing colder nights, rising temperatures, and diminishing northwest winds. A storm warning is in effect from 10 p.m. on February 26 as a severe storm centers moves northeast from the lower lake regions. Observations from Long Branch record a high yesterday of 37 and a low of 36, with temperatures at 6 a.m. at 37 and a plus one degree change in 24 hours. Barometer readings around 29.47 to 29.48, wind speeds up to 57 miles per hour from the southeast in the past four hours, humidity around 87 percent at 8 a.m. and 67 percent at 10 a.m. Precipitation totals show the past 24 hours to 8 a.m. to be light, with a note that one year ago today the weather was partly cloudy.
