Hope Willing to Debate Taylor on Branch Shore Court
At a Shore Court meeting in City Hall a petition drive was sent to Senator Slocum asking him to introduce the Shore Court bill with a referendum on both Shore and district court issues. About 500 voters signed the shore branch court petition, with more expected. Arthur H. Hope of the East Monmouth League accepted Speaker Taylor’s challenge to debate any night during Feb 10 1913 week, with place arrangements to be settled by the Long Branch Board of Trade.

Reverend Edwards Dies After Long Religious service
Rev Henry B Edwards aged about 79 or 80 died at his home 657 Morford avenue after years of declining health. He lived in Oceanport and Branchport before settling at Morford in 1900. He served various pulpits and led religious work, once postmaster at Sugar Loaf New York and sailed vessels between Eatontown and New York. Funeral at his home tomorrow then at St Luke s M B Church with sermon by Rev Alfonso Dare. Burial in Glenwood cemetery.

Anti trust bills heard today in New Jersey Senate
The New Jersey Senate judiciary committee opened a public hearing on the anti trust bill with minor opposition. speakers from the New Jersey Manufacturers Association Tidewater Oil Co and Victor Talking Machine Co urged allowances for wage fixing and warned against price cutting that harms state regions. Four Year Old Starts Furniture Fire In Home Blaze
A four year old started a fire that burned furniture as a smoke-filled home alarmed neighbors. Firefighters arrived quickly but a child nearby was at risk of suffocation until others guided residents to safety. The incident prompted rapid evacuation and a survey of fire safety measures.
House Fire Destroys Henry Smiths Home in Liberty Street
Sympathy pours in for Henry Smith whose modest two story home behind Thomas' grocery on Liberty Street burned this morning at 11 40. Fire started when a child playing with matches ignited a table in the bedroom. Smith saved the child but suffered burns. upper story gutted and several hundred dollars in damage. The building owner is Christian Brehm of Garfield Avenue. No insurance on the household effects.
