Collapse tied to heavy bets for the Buffalo and Susquehanna railroad system and to high living costs depressing bond market. The firm held 800000 in Buffalo and Susquehanna bonds and 1200000 in preferred stock of its subsidiary both hard to unload at loss. Managers say investors seek higher income from risky bonds amid rising prices. The collapse marks the largest private failure in five years. The firm acted as fiscal agent for years and faced a challenging market across high grade bonds and government issues.

Henry Thomas, colored, 72, died yesterday afternoon at his Lincoln Place home after three weeks illness. A cottage caretaker on Cedar avenue for 15 years, he froze a foot in a cold spell, then cut a corn which bled, leading to a running sore and gangrene. Survived by three daughters and two sons, including Sadie Coffey, Jessie, Lulu, Edward, and Arthur. Funeral at his house Friday 1:30 p m followed by service at Trinity AME Church. Interment at White Ridge cemetery under William H Morris Jr. funeral director.

Driver Seriously Injured After Wagon Collision
Mr Kenny, employed by Dalton Parmley of Oceanic, was driving a wagon with a horse attached when the horse fell. The rear wagon struck the first, throwing Kenny to the ground and causing a head wound, a dislocated shoulder, and a fractured collarbone. Dr William D Sayre of Red Bank treated the injuries and Kenny is expected to be laid up about a month.

An unidentified man about 60 was struck and killed near Morgan station by a Central Railroad train that departed Jod Bank at 6:46. He walked on the track toward South Amboy, ignored the whistle, and was dashed against rocks by the bay. The body was taken to South Amboy. he wore a black overcoat blue overalls and a tur cap.
