SUITCASES FOUND AND THIEF ALARMED IN BELMONT CASE

Two kept items recovered in the city: Miss Clara Jeffrey’s stage suitcase, last seen from Central depot, was returned to her via Frank Layton after patrolman Harvey retrieved it. A lace sample case taken from Jacob Steinbach’s Broadway storefront was found discarded near the Atlantic engine house after the thief examined its contents. Belmont avenue was used in the escape. State Plans Use School Funds In New Budget Estimate

Trenton, Feb. 1 New Jersey lawmakers received a financial statement from State Comptroller Henry J. West detailing the cost of state government for the next fiscal year and supplemental appropriations for the balance of the current year. The supplemental estimate is 1,200,84.08 and the current year ending Oct 31, 1911 is 8,140,920. The two figures total 6,341,790.87. The next fiscal year shows an increase of 895,935.47 over the present year, but a decrease of 2,033,60.64 compared with 1909 due largely to railroad tax diversions for school purposes.

Hazel L leads in tight Board of Trade cup race

In a northeast wind over soft ice the Trazel and Drub battled for the Board of Trade cup yesterday. Hazel L. led after five miles and finished a boat length ahead, with the Drub close behind as the pair finished in 64 03 despite the soft finish delay. Isabel also competed, piloted by Walter Content, starting strong before Hazel L. overtook.

Funeral for Joseph Lewis Jr. in Long Branch draws large crowd

At the funeral yesterday the junkman Joseph Lewis Jr. was well known in Long Branch. Over five hundred people attended and two hundred or more followed the remains to the avenue. During interment a small silver cane was thrown at the grave.

Daly Club Stable Remodeled Into Livery with Living Rooms

Chris Caster purchased the large atable on the former Phil Daly Club property and moved it to Tot on Second avenue, converting the building into a livery with fourteen living rooms on the second floor.
