Red Bank Land and Loan Company weighs new trolley link to Long Branch

The Land and Loan Company of Red Bank is considering a Red Bank to Long Branch trolley line. Meetings have outlined a Broad street route via Branch avenue to Rumson road and Prospect Avenue to Little Silver. The firm may fund or build the line if no operator is found, with $50 pledged and trolley magnates showing interest.

New York Wedding for John Francis Lockwood and Ruby Fogg

Captain and Mrs. Nelson Lockwood of Galilee announce the marriage of their son John Francis to Miss Ruby Berne Fogg of New York. Jack Breen Dies of Consumption at 39

James Breen a longtime New York Telephone Co employee and former wagon driver for Wm McGregor, died after a year of illness. He was 39, a native of Long Branch, with funeral at Star of the Sea Church and Mt. Carmel burial. No surviving local relatives listed.

Mrs Betts Dies at 58 in Wallace Street Home

Mrs Sarah E Betts of Red Bank died Monday night at her Wallace street home after a complication of diseases. She was 58 and survived by her husband Dr J H Betts, with no children. The funeral will be held tomorrow.

Immense Cost Outlined for Inland Waterway Project

A Senate report by Senator Nichols on the Bay Head to Shrewsbury River waterway estimates total costs from 2.126 to 2.75 million dollars. It covers 21.76 miles of canal with 35 bridges and a 60 foot waterway width, plus 156000 for right of way and deposits about 7.6 million cubic yards of excavation. The plan requires complex disposal methods and has no recommendations. A public meeting in Asbury Park will discuss the project with boards from Atlantic Highlands to Bay Head.

Mylius Convicted in King Libel Case in London

Edward F. Mylius was found guilty of criminal libel against King George and sentenced to one year in prison. The trial centered on a Liberator story alleging the king’s earlier marriage to Admiral Seymour’s daughter and that subsequent children and a reshaped marriage followed for religious reasons.

Thirteen Bridge Workers Drowned In Newark Caisson Accident

At the Fascaic River bridge site near Centre Street, a crane chain broke spilling two tons of mud in a caisson, flooding the middle chamber. Sixteen workers were trapped. thirteen drowned. Three escaped but vanished before names could be learned. Most victims were from Philadelphia and Baltimore.

Navesink Man Stricken Suddenly In Post Office Store

Augustus Whales of Navesink collapsed in Webster Swan’s grocery post office early yesterday suffering paralysis on his right side. He was unconscious when Swan reached him and is expected to recover. Also noted is the sudden death of George Stiles, son-in-law of Edwin L Wells of Oakhurst, who died Monday night and will be buried Friday at 2 PM from West Long Branch’s old First M E Church with Rev Le B Fisher officiating. He was 26, survived by a widow two sisters and a brother.

Explosion rocks Jersey City docks at Pier 7

A carload of dynamite exploded near Pier 7 at Communipaw Jersey City causing widespread destruction. The blast damaged Jersey City property and shook Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn and northern New Jersey. Many killed and hundreds injured with trains and cars blown apart and windows shattered across the area.
