Series of Thefts Stirs Keyport Matawan Residents
A rash of four or more robberies in six days spooks Keyport and Matawan as residents lock doors at night. Thieves entered homes of Rev. C H Bruce Charlies Carman and Mayor F C Bedle taking cash watches and a winter overcoat. Alonzo Wayling lost gold jewelry and cash and was imprisoned briefly by the intruders. A card party at Henry Arrowsmith’s home reported an attempted rear window entry and a possible vehicle escape. Fruit and vegetables were stolen from Charles Simmons’ cellar.
