Honor Colony at Rahway Reform School Aims for Parole Trust
Trenton reports the New Jersey Reform School at Rahway should create an Honor Colony away from the main building for inmates nearing parole who prove reform. The plan would grant privileges under minimal restraint, modify citizenship loss rules, raise several officer salaries, and expand parole supervision. The 1912 year saw 614 inmates start, 500 at year end, with total maintenance costs about 166,840 dollars and per capita yearly cost around 329 dollars. Several reforms include trade schools, abolition of contract labor, and enhanced parole oversight.

Property Decrease in Pit Section of Red Bank
A property valued at about 20040 owned by respected colored residents near the A M E Zion Church in Red Bank is dropping in value yearly. Rev J J Adams warns that after a new church is built and the old structure abandoned, the nearby real estate may slump further. The Pit includes shanties along the New Jersey Southern railroad with rents from three to seven dollars, and police court cases arise from loafing there. The pastor notes industrious colored residents on Beach Street opposite the Pit and urges removal of the Pit to prevent better homes from moving away.
