Chicken thieves again busy at Port Monmouth poultry harms
An attempted break in at Frank Downes poultry house failed when Leslie Downes fired at two men leaving the rear yard near Patrick Kinney's property. The thieves fled, and the Downes noted the entire shot spent near the lock. This was their second attempt within a fortnight. Earlier, they frightened a dog at another house and stole fowls nearby. A prior raid on Richard Conrad’s bay shore premises had yielded about fifty birds. Local opinion links the thieves to a gang linked to Edgar I Martian’s spring break in, where the suspects were captured but not prosecuted after repayment was demanded by the victim.
