Mamie Seward, twelve, stood rigid on a Brooklyn crossing as an express from Asbury Park to Atlantic Highlands bore down. Engineer Robert Fleck stopped the train and carried her to safety, later summoning a physician as she remained unable to move.
Queen Elizabeth IV presided over a court at the Bath avenue home of Mr. and Mrs. George Latham Crum. The event featured Mrs Mer cedees Crimi as hostess with a notable guest list, music, and floral decorations. Patrolman Harry Clayton, recovering from nosebleeds, shows signs of improvement after a critical period.
Prof and Mrs Christopher Gregory came back from New Hampshire on Tuesday after a August vacation. He resumes work as supervisor of the Jong Branch schools on September 10. Peal Fire No. 2 responded at 2 80 this morning under Chief Birk enfeld and Assistant Chief Conover. Cadillac touring car on Jerome and Norwood avenues burned, body destroyed, later towed to a Long Branch garage. Occupants fled, car owner identified as D C Herman of West End Cottages but not in the vehicle.
Arrangements were completed for a reception to Rev. Victor J Blekkink and wife at the parsonage tomorrow night. Blekkink married on August 7 in Holland Michigan and arrived in Long Branch last Saturday. The open event for church members and friends starts at eight with music singing and refreshments.

Washington Park Association leaders at a meeting in the Cutcheon home announced a concert by the Long Branch Military Band on September 13 with an outdoor festival. They urged better behavior near the park and planned fines and sanitary improvements with local boards to help adjoining property, praising park upkeep and bandstand renovations.
Martin Rafferty a Long Branch boy fifteen wins a parish schol arship from 14 000 competitors in the Trenton diocese. Examinations held in Trenton Camden and South Amboy he wrote in South Amboy. He will study at St Francis Xavier College New York and is expected to pursue high school and college courses. William P. Wolcott of Great Barrington Massachusetts faced $1500 bond on a manslaughter charge after Mrs Lillian Rogan wife of Rev James W Rogan was killed when the trolley car he drove struck a curve too fast The coroner's jury ruled the fatality due to a fractured skull and Wolcott pleaded guilty at District Court in Barrington The accident happened while the Rogans were touring trolley routes in Massachusetts and the funeral for Mrs Rogan was held in Red Bank New Jersey
Pioneer fisherman John McWood, near seventy, was injured at 5 am yesterday when a wagon wheel ran over a plank, throwing him to the ground and causing a dazed injury that will sideline him for several days. He works in the pound fishing industry near Galilee.
The Weather Bureau predicts fair weather for New Jersey through Friday night with moderate temperatures. Observations show yesterday's high 70 and low 56, with 8 am temperature 1 degree higher, humidity around 68-84 percent, wind at 14 mph from the north, and a sea level barometer near 29.85.
A joint Sunday School picnic from Simpson and Presbyterian groups marched to the station under drum and fife. A special five car train carried the picnickers to Point Pleasant for dinner and a lively baseball game among the youths with several athletic contests including 50 and 60 yard dashes.

Separately a civil engineer’s car backed into a fence on Broadway near Norwood, cracking the fence but leaving the tree standing and causing no injuries.
The Fifth Annual Monmouth County Agricultural Fair at Red Bank features a Royal Victor band program, horse show, aeroplane flights, vaudeville acts, and prize exhibits. Organizers from Batontown to New York present vegetables, fruit, and fertilizer displays judged by Professor Blake. Henry Sutphen remarries. he works for Prudential Life Insurance.
The August meeting of the Board of Education discussed the school building condition and progress toward opening. Five teachers were appointed for the opening on September 10, including Miss Margaret MacLean and Miss Ethel Greenlaw. The board reviewed a consulting engineer's report on the metal and plaster work, with action deferred pending further consideration by the state board.
A frightened horse pulling a light runabout threw a Miss Phillips of Allenhurst from a bridge railing into shallow Deal Lake. William Powell, auto line proprietor from Asbury Park, leaped in and swam to rescue her. The wagon struck the wall. the horse bolted as the bridge planks loosened. The girl refused to ride on after rescue and rested at Maintenhurst restaurant.
