Hitchcock clarifies Sunday mail law limits

Washington reports Postmaster General Hitchcock interpreting the new Sunday delivery ban to exclude certain urgent mail. He says newspapers and hotel guest mail may still be delivered to lock boxes or by carriers, with weekend processing not disrupted and offices not closed. Monmouth County Fair Opens With Diverse Exhibits

The fifth annual Monmouth County Agricultural Fair opens tomorrow at Shrewsbury Avenue grounds near Red Bank. The program includes horse shows, baby and flower displays, chicken shows, vaudeville acts, aero plane flights, and band concerts. School Children Day, Governor’s and Farmers Day, Everybody’s Day, and Labor Day are planned with special features and prize purses of 300 dollars for speed events.

Mayor proposes four street improvements in Board meeting

The Mayor as director of Public Affairs proposed four resolutions for Park Avenue Second Avenue Rockwell Avenue Broadway and Third Avenue. Plans include permanent pavement on Second Avenue and referrals to the Streets and Public Improvements department for study and reporting at the next meeting.

Goop Wins Monday Race in Mosautite Fleet

Goop of Hamilton won Monday's race in the Mosautite Fleet at Gallee. MecCarter's Nesbitt placed second, Petit's Five Brothers third, and Camp's Lindens fourth. Five Brothers earned the points cup for the last three races. Potts boat totaled seven points across the three heats. A silver second-place cup went to Goop with five points. An eight-inch silver cup presentation followed, for Park Association purposes. Mrs F R Cutcheon called a meeting for 8pm at 75 Washington street. Commissioners hear a protest over overcrowding at the Salvation Army North Long Branch home housing 80 to 140 children in a building not fit for fifty. President Taft directed the 10th Infantry stationed at Panama City to sail for Corinto Nicaragua immediately on the State Department request. It marks the first time in many years that American troops have been sent to Central America to quell a revolution.

Aged Long Branch Woman Taken to Hospital

Mrs. Robert Potter, eighty two, a pioneer Long Branch resident, was moved to Monmouth Memorial Hospital by Hyer and Plock's ambulance after a long illness. She has suffered from elephantiasis and two legs were severely affected, with one to be amputated later. Her condition today is as expected for her age. Captain Robert Potter, her husband, has lived in Long Branch since the sea line was much nearer shore.

Governor Lacks Authority to Remove Officials in Newark Crusade

Essex delegation asked Governor Wilson to use his office to force enforcement of the law in Newark. He stated he has no legal power to remove noncompliant officials or enlist the Attorney General, could only influence public opinion and inform authorities, as 1901 law requires county action and grand jury indictment to proceed. The Governor will study the statute and ensure copies are served on Essex authorities to aid efforts.

Deevess Serenaded at Country Home by 25 Friends
