On August 10 1911 at Ocean avenue the Branchport Hose Company set a hose laying time of 58 ½ seconds during a parade event while the Independents using a rebuilt La France engine posted 8 minutes 48 25 seconds in the engine test. The Branchport crew Benjamin Hayden George Yale Harry Waitt and Charles Cook won a silver cup and the carnival trophy for best appearing company as spectators exceed 2000. Chief Van Benthuysen presided with officials Frank Garriel Daniel Lawley and Thomas Murphy and timers John G Sexton William Morris and Charles H Greene Jr.

A baseball game between the Brooklyn leaguers and Long Branch was halted near the end of the ninth inning as a fire broke out in stall 52 behind the horse show grounds. The blaze destroyed about 40 of 140 stalls, with losses estimated at 3000 dollars insured. John Gannon, sixteen, confessed to starting the straw fire. he was arrested after being found at his West End avenue home. Hearing postponed pending missing association directors.

An unknown driver in Shrewsbury ran through a hedge into a graveyard to avoid a collision, striking a headstone but injuring no one. The car, coming from Tinton Falls, left Broad Street near Sycamore Avenue. several Red Bank children were aboard. Names were not given.

Second annual doll carnival prompts late coronation plans
Plans for a second annual doll carnival include a Friday evening coronation of Queen Jennette Finn at Washington Park and a Thursday night pageant. The Long Branch Military Band and baritone W. S. Parker assist with music and entertainment as the festival opens to the public.
