Judges Selected for Doll Carnival Pageant

Judges for the annual doll carnival were announced with divisions for Doll carriages Floats Masquerades Go carts and Babies in coaches with dollies added. Entrants total 128 by last night and registration continues through Thursday. The committee plans a miniature coronation with Queen Jeanette and a full program including a small band police officers and a pony mounted page.

Carnival committee bills due tonight for Board of Trade

All persons holding bills against the carnival committee of the Board of Trade must present them by 8 p m tonight. The carnival committee will meet the Board of Trade at City Hall at 8 o clock. Bills presented to chairman J H Davis Jr and found correct will be audited and paid at once.

E. Conover's factory in Morford Place Red Bank on the North Shrewsbury river shuts for two weeks to grant workers a vacation. It will reopen on Tuesday September 6.

Seven year old dies after dog bite and rabies scare

The seven year old son of Mr and Mrs Frank Brown of Madison avenue died at Monmouth Memorial Hospital after rabies developed from a dog bite last June. Dr Joseph T Welch tried to save him with Pasteur Institute treatment but too late. He suffered severe hydrophobia and convulsions, ending in death. The case highlights dangers from stray dogs and cauterization as insufficient protection.

The twenty second annual reunion of the Twenty-ninth New Jersey Volunteers will be held at Holmdel on Thursday September 14 beginning at ten o clock. Vice Chancellor Walker names Wilbur A. Heisley of Long Branch as temporary receiver in a Brookline suit asserting insolvency and mismanagement at Central Ice Company a New Jersey holding firm with $1,000,000 outstanding capital. Begging Fakir Placed in Jail After Alms Claim Fail

William Sullivan a robust man claiming blindness and lameness visited town with a west show and begged alms. Patrolman Edwards detained him and he was jailed ten days at Freehold after being found able to travel with crutches. His crutches were shown at City Hall. Meanwhile the Eintracht Singing Society held its shore dinner at Mine Host Al Smith in Oceanport with members traveling by motor launches carriages and trolley despite engine trouble.

Boy Held in $1500 On Arson Charge

John Gannon a 16 year old boy appeared before Recorder Arrowsmith at City Hall on a morning hearing. Detective Captain Walling testified as the defense entered a not guilty plea. Gannon confessed to applying a match to straw in stall No 2 of the Horse Show grounds on Sunday afternoon. He was taken into custody at the West End engine house and held in $1500 bail to await grand jury action. The fire damaged forty stalls, caused an estimated $3000 loss, and insurance covered the damage.

Miles of South Orange laid to rest in funeral

Francis Tiers Miles of South Orange died Saturday morning at Reservation Cottage No 2 after typhoid fever. Funeral services were held at the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows. Miles, a bachelor, lived with his sister Agnes Miles and had ties to New York clubs and the South Orange Field Club. He was born in Philadelphia forty years ago and graduated from Seton Hall College.

Smoke Ordinance Before Council

The city council introduced an ordinance to abate a smoke nuisance with first reading and set adoption for September. It bans soot deposits from chimneys and smokestacks and imposes fines from twenty five to two hundred dollars for violations.

Successful Firemen's Fair at Crescent Hall Baton Town

The Batontown Hook and Ladder Company conducted a four night fair at Crescent Hall Lewis street Baton town last week. Crowds attended every night and the event cleared over 41. Items were sold and many articles were disposed of on the cooperative plan. A centerpiece was dancing with booths along the walls. Gramann's orchestra of Red Bank provided music for the dances.

Eastmond Hosts Brooklyn Church Ladies at Country Estate

Mrs. Thomas J. Eastmond, supervisor of Brooklyn school classes for mentally defective children, entertained members of the Ladies Aid Society of the First Church of Christ Disciples at her Port Monmouth area country home. The second annual outing featured a country dinner under an apple tree, water lily decorations, a gift lunch cloth and hand painted dish, and a group photograph followed by a wagon ride.
