Stout Family Leader Jacob T. Stout Dies at Atlantic Highlands
Jacob T. Stout former mayor of Atlantic Highlands and long time president of the Atlantic Highlands Building and Loan Association and the Atlantic Highlands National Bank died after a brief illness. Born 1836 at Mountain Hill Middleton his line traces to Penelope Verprifitz who survived an attack by Native warriors near Sandy Hook Bay. Stout’s descendants include a long line of local residents and prominent figures in the town. The obituary notes his public service and family heritage.

J H S Parke, a 72 year old Seebeyville resident and noted fanning mill maker turned wheelwright, loses sight after an explosion and will spend his remaining days at Truax farm. Once known as Zip and Bip for his writings, he authored pieces for local papers and began in Phillipsburg with fanning mills before taking over John R Snyder’s factory in Scobeyville.

Tragic drowning on New Jersey coast claims two visitors
At Janitic City New Jersey Aug 3 William Lewis of Washington DC and Miss Edith Rockey of Quarryville PA drowned while swimming off the ocean front before lifeguards arrived. A crowd on the boardwalk witnessed the tragedy as Brad tried to reach the pair. A separate report notes a dance at the Monmouth Beach Casino last Wednesday evening.

Man Dies After Drinking Refusal at Abbott’s Hotel
