One of a string of riverbank robberies, a burglar entered the Field residence, pocketed $25, and escaped. In the same spree, several homes in the vicinity were hit and a couple sustained injuries during the break in. Police urged residents to report suspicious activity and offered no further leads at this time.
A lone burglar entered Dr. Edwin Field's Red Bank home on West Front Street around 3:80 am and stole $25 from his trousers pocket. Mrs Field awoke to a man in her room, shouted, and the intruder fled after the doctor rushed from the next room. Police search ongoing. clothes, money, and a pocket book were disturbed though checks were left.
Edith Howland hosted a midsummer carnival lawn fete at Morford Avenue to honor the queen of the dolls. Queen Edwina and King Gordon presided as children played games, wound the May pole, and enjoyed a large outdoor feast with decorations and ample refreshments.
Laborer John Weber of Matawan perished instantly at Morgan when his excavation under a Jersey Central pole caused it to fall and contact a live wire. Neighbors assisted but his electrocution proved fatal. body sent to Matawan. Also notes Phylathea society meeting Red Bank, Dr. McSherry licensed after osteopathy practice, and Independent Fire Engine Truck Company meeting with officer nominations.
An eighty horsepower Moissant monoplane piloted by C Mervin Wood of Kansas City Nebraska will race a ten car Pennsylvania train to Washington D C and back. Wood starts from Garden City Long Island field at 4 30 tomorrow morning aiming to meet the train at Elizabeth New Jersey. The train cars tops will be painted white to aid direction at 5000 feet. The race seeks American distance duration speed and longest flight from sunrise to sunset.
In Bucharest on August 7 delegates prepared to sign the preliminary Balkan peace treaty. The conference was expected to adjourn before night, with Bulgarians likely to head for Adrianople. Dispatches from Constantinople report six ambassadors warned Turkey to honor the London Treaty, implying Adrianople’s recall.
The Mardi Gras attraction debuts on opening night of the Mid Summer Carnival. Revelry on Bluff-walk and carnival grounds with bright lights, a grandstand platform for dancing, a twenty-piece band, and masks encouraged for guests. The Daily Record urges attendance.
Mrs. Geraldine Thompson leader of the Monmouth county NYSA says a county hospital is needed for tuberculosis patients. She challenges Freeholder John Daly’s opposition and urges state support or a county facility to serve local patients at Farmingdale with economical, limited physician services. Mrs Lameno Blanco died at Ann May Hospital Spring Lake after a gasoline stove explosion at 158 Fisher Avenue late Tuesday. A nearby child was reported seriously ill. neighbors assisted as flames enveloped her. Dr Jamison ordered her removal to the hospital yesterday morning.
Excitement gripped Asbury Park when Josephine Dennie eighteen and her mother Mrs Jennie Dennie New York with two daughters aged seventeen and fourteen were pursued after a Ford automobile abducted Josephine on a trolley ride. Police found the car owner Jules Reuter and a male companion. bail set for a court hearing. The family, shaken, watched as witnesses testified at the Recorder's court about the attempted abduction and the driver's actions.
Queen Elizabeth V and her court plan a harvest event at Arvest Home with members attending a service at Tinton Falls M E Church tonight. The royal group will dine, attend Broadway Theatre shows, and join a straw ride to Atlantic Highlands followed by a dance at the Takanassee Hotel. They earlier toured the Ochs Air cinema with decorative slides about the royal party.
The annual Oceanic Methodist Church fair opened last night in Parmly's grove with an illuminated open air supper. Booths in white blue gold and purple and white offer aprons, fancy items, hats, drinks and ice cream. Proceeds fund amusements and the event continues this afternoon and tonight. Hospital news reports Mrs Swannell of Peters Place is recovering after surgery. her husband Mr Swannell once ran an architectural office. James D Maps of Ocean Grove suffers a stroke and is critically ill. Ocean County foresees loss of the county for road funding debates continue.
A crowded City Hall meeting outlined a full Governor's Day program for the carnival. Firemen will parade to Takanassee Lake and Bath Avenue, with an address by Governor Fielder and a night mardi gras dance at the carnival grounds. About 600 visiting firemen are expected as out-of-town companies pledge participation.
Fireworks on the beach, set pieces along the front at Recetana Pier. An expected larger crowd than last week with about sixty aerial bombs planned. John W. Wilson funds the free exhibits and lists subscribers such as John W. Wilson ten dollars, gra Heldt ten dollars, John Muller five dollars, Cash B. B. N. five dollars. Contributions invited to support the display for the benefit of the public.
District Attorney Joe Whitman announced he would accept renomination to his current office on the Fusion ticket, joining John Purroy Mitchel and George McAneney as Fusion mayoralty candidates. Milther prevailed, with McAneney nominated for President of the Board of Aldermen and Whitman for District Attorney on August 7 in New York.
