Welcome to new pastor draws varied church turnout

Numerous clergymen and lay attendees welcomed Rev. T. B. Hughes new pastor of First Baptist Church with readings from nearby church leaders and messages from the American Baptist Home Mission Society. Long Branch and Eatontown church officials attended, praising the historic link and inviting cheer, as the program closed with music and scripture readings.

Highlands Plans Three Day Carnival

Highlands announces a three day water carnival from August 24 to 26 with a large motor boat parade along the Jersey coast. Events include boat races aquatic sports an illuminated parade with hundreds of boats prizes for best decorated boats and hotels and a land parade with merchant floats a professional amateur marathon and potential baby and aerial displays under carnival promoter L E Dare and secretary George W Hardy inviting entries.

Long Branch L. A. Route Head Resigns. Exam Set

Harry B. Wolcott steps down after three years as manager of the Rural Free Delivery route between Long Branch and Oakhurst. Ernest Wolcott serves as substitute until a regular messenger is chosen. The post pays $60 monthly. a competitive examination is scheduled for August 27 at Long Branch. Information available from Secretary Siebel at the Long Branch post office.

Neptune Hose Fair Sets Stage For August Attraction

The Neptune Hose Company's fair committee and the ladies' auxiliary completed details for a three day fair on August 4 6 and 6. The big tent is up booths are going up and electricians prep for illumination. Prof J Pitman West's orchestra will provide music and outdoor dancing will be featured.

John L Hicks Dies After Long Illness in Broadway Home

John L Hicks known jeweler in Long Branch dies at his Broadway residence after a prolonged illness. He planned his funeral, was conscious to the end, and left detailed arrangements. George W. Ford an electrician who had his leg amputated days ago at Monmouth Memorial Hospital remains in a precarious state relatives and friends express concern for his recovery. Eight-Year-Old Attacked by Fox Terrier in Keansburg

Eight-year-old Bennie Ames was badly mauled by a female fox terrier at A I Phillips dairy in Keansburg while waiting for milk. His sister Belle Philips was also bitten. Bennie remained in serious condition after being revived by Dr H W Hartman.

Young husband shoots wife near Eatontown then flees

In Maxwell near Eatontown an early morning shooting left a 17 year old woman critically wounded by her husband Daniel Taylor age about 20 who then shot himself and fled toward the Southern Railroad depot. Coroner and police searched woods as the couple’s domestic troubles are outlined.

New Factory in Long Branch Plans to Hire 1000 Workers

An incorporated company with offices on Morris Avenue opens a three story plant in Long Branch. Louis Silverstein serves as president and the firm expects to employ about a thousand workers as it expands from the current 110. The facility uses electric power, with 40 machines in operation and 20 ironing presses. The plant emphasizes local hiring, sanitary conditions, and steady payroll of over 600 dollars weekly while planning larger quarters if needed.

Keyport Parade Delayed By Sudden Shower

The Keyport Carnival parade started later than planned due to a sudden afternoon shower. The procession featured two bands, two fife and drum corps, and townspeople in gala attire. A baby parade was set for 4 PM. a full journival story will appear in tomorrow’s Record.
