The Christian Science Society of Lakewood relocates Sunday School to two sessions at 9:15 a.m. for ages up to 20 and 11 a.m. for ages 3 to 11, with a new reading room at 4162 Woodriff Ave for children under 3. The Lakewood Legion hall and Parkcrest Street host services while the new reading room opening is announced.
The new Lutheran church of Los Altos Lakewood plans Sunday School and Adult Bible classes led by Pastor Goehring at 9 45 a m in a temporary tent chapel at 2301 Palo Yarda Ave. Classes cover the entire family from age three, supplementing the 11 a m worship.
More than 500 Presbyterian laymen and pastors will attend four area meetings in the Los Angeles area today and Sept 25, plus a Sept 24 session in San Diego. Under Rev Dr Reuben F Pieters leadership the conferences aim to aid pastors canvass committee chairs and church visitors for the Every Member Canvass this fall. Conferences scheduled 8:30 p m in Los Angeles Pomona Calvary Long Beach Highland Park San Diego First Church with various leaders and chairmen named.
The North Long Beach Methodist Church will honor church school workers and teachers during Sunday morning service led by Rev. Roy Carl Mason. Christian Education Week events continue with a Tuesday potluck supper and a showing of Faith of Our Family followed by a discussion group. On September 26 Bibles will be presented to new fourth graders.
Frederick A. Sykes, manager of the Long Beach Retailers Associated, will be guest speaker Sunday at 6 p.m. at the Lakewood Bellflower Church of Religious Science. He will discuss Practical Application of the Sermon on the Mount at L0.C.F. Hall, Palm Street and Ardmore Avenue.
The four Mariner Clubs of First Presbyterian Church held their annual installation banquet in the church social hall. Rev. Dr. Reuben Field Pieters officiated as installing officer with guest speaker Rev. Karl J. Christ of Tustin Presbyterian Church. Ralph Lines acted as master of ceremonies and Jean Roadhouse sang. The four groups Cutter Clippers Corvettes and Schooners form by age and project goals. Incoming skippers are Jerry and Lila Beeson Cutter Ralph and Katie Lines Clippers Irvin and Hazel Bechtold Corvetters Bob and Elma Blatt Schooners.
Bethany Lutheran Elementary opens with 4 capacity enrollment. Rev Norbert C Mueller notes 200 pupils fill the sanctuary as a Christian Service Center group from Long Beach sends tents. Pastor Kempin announces two services at Pine Avenue Church of God with a youth meeting at 6 20 pm. The CS team led by Bob Newkirk and Hob Foster includes members from armed services and faculty.
Hymn recordings by Charles Buffum, a 25 year old ex-GI and son of Harry A. Buffum, will be aired on KGER Sunday from 2 15 to 2 30 p m. He recorded hymns for Carlton Recording Co with San Francisco Symphony players and will promote fundraising via non profit groups and churches. A second broadcast is set for September 27 from 2 18 to 2 30 p m on KGER.
