The City Planning Commission approved placing a county courthouse on the north side of Ocean Blvd between Chestnut and Magnolia Aves and adding a two block square area bounded by Cedar and Magnolia Aves Ocean Blvd and Broadway to the civic center. A new city hall would be built on Cedar Ave midway between Broadway and Ocean Blvd with public safety building sites on Broadway between Chestnut and Magnolia. The panel asked the City Council to place a May 11 primary election ballot for Iceland Funds to finance the city hall public service building and courthouse site purchase. The commission did not back the North Long Beach midtown site favored by others. The plan remains to be acted on by the City Council.
