United States Navy pilots claim its first MiG-15 shootdown using a propeller driven Corsair in North Korea. Capt. G. Folmer of Santa Ana and Lt. W. Daniels of Atlanta Texas credited with the kill after engaging two MiGs. Folmer later described a five second 20 mm burst that sent the enemy jet spiraling. Folmer, shot down previously, was rescued by an Air Force salvage plane and sustained a bruised shoulder.

Three Saved After Newport Boat Sinks
Three survivors from the Newport Beach fishing boat Four Brothers say their craft capsized near La Jolla about 11 miles offshore Wednesday night. Rescued by the tanker Santa Maria, the men were en route to San Diego with owners William J. Campbell and Arthur R. Campbell and William Weber. Coast Guard search followed the distressed call as waves rolled the 41 foot boat, wreckage later spotted miles west of La Jolla by a Coast Guard plane.
