Chiang Ships and Planes Pound Reds Fifth Day
Nationalist planes and warships bombed and shelled mainland Communist artillery and bases opposite Formosa for the fifth straight day. The defense ministry said only that latest attacks were being pressed as a west pocket near Quemoy remained a focal point of fighting. Nationalist forces conducted air and naval strikes on Amoy satellites and Red fortresses, with several surface craft reported destroyed and ships damaged along the China coast. No invasion indication was given, though heavy bombardment suggested continued pressure on Quemoy.
