P T Editor Honored for Beach Aid Work
HH. F. Burmester editor of the Press Telegram was honored by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for outstanding merit in developing and protecting county beaches. He presided at Pico Avenue foot of the breakwater ribbon cutting in 1924 and has fought erosion for about 30 years. The award, to be presented at the Shoreline Planning Association of California convention, follows a lineage of beach protection efforts including San Pedro breakwater extension.

City Council Approves Land Use Study near Airport
The City Planning Department will study 307 acres condemned east of Municipal Airport and additional option land southeast of the airport. Proposed uses include light manufacturing, parks, a golf course, and baseball fields. City Manager Samuel E. Vickers emphasized planners should determine the best use.

Sweet Adelines Featured on Stixby Park Program
The Sweet Adelines women’s barber shop chorus will headline a summer art program at Stixby Park at 7 p m Thursday. Dick Miller directs the chorus and Eugene LaBarie leads the Municipal Band with drum solos by Bill Nelson. Motion pictures Skiing in Yosemite Monarch Butterfly and a Woody Woodpecker cartoon will be shown.

Shell Club to Meet in Downtown Public Library Sunday
The shell club will hold its regular meeting Sunday September 14 at 2 30 p m in the downtown public library. The meeting is open to the public. In the last meeting members viewed H Arden Edwards paintings at Southwest Museum Highland Park then visited Edwards home at Eagle Rock for dinner and a shell identification party game. Forty three members and guests attended.

The Long Reach Municipal Band presents a program conducted by Eugene LaBarre with James Son assisting. Selections include Caprice and a Wagner overture with pieces in varied languages and styles.
