Long Beach retailers back Proposition P on ballot
Frederick A. Sykes of Long Beach Retailers Association says a barrage of misinformation led to a statement endorsing Proposition P on the Tuesday ballot. He notes state law allows business district property owners to petition for a parking district, with a neighborhood group including merchants and lot operators. He adds opposition was not anticipated and cites endorsements from the Chamber of Commerce and other groups as proof Proposition P helps Long Beach.

Prop 3 predicted to pass by wide California support
Caspar Weinberger, a San Francisco assemblyman who led the liquor control committee, predicts Prop 3 will win by a substantial majority. He argues the measure ends the Board of Equalization’s dictatorial power by creating a governor appointed director of alcoholic beverage control with removal rights, contrasting it with past corruption in licensing. Local 52 Oakland criticizes Prop 3, saying politics would rule liquor law enforcement. Both gubernatorial candidates Knight and Graves back Prop 3.
